Meet Smokey, 1yr old male british shorthair cat. Smokey was brought to us due to a fracture in his right humerus.

Bone reduction and fixation was done using dynamic locking plate to secure the integrity of the affected limb. 🦴🐈‍⬛🩺

2weeks after the surgery, Smokey is now able to walk normally again! 🤩

Tracheal collapse in pets may present with life-threatening upper airway obstruction. Chronic manifestations of airway obstruction include intermittent coughing, honking cough, noisy breathing and snorting. The collapsed structure involves a progressive degeneration of the tracheal cartilage characterized with dorsoventral flattening of the trachea as well as muscle laxity.

Meet Tuffy, a 14-yr old female toy poodle. Tuffy was presented to our clinic with signs of chronic coughing and gagging reflex that doesn’t improve despite previous treatments and management. Signs worsen after few days until syncope was observed.

Initially, Tuffy was placed in our ICU chamber for oxygen support coupled with other treatments to help relieve respiratory effort thus relieving airway obstruction. In such cases, a tracheal stent is our best shot considering several factors including the patient age, tolerance to anesthesia and ease of placement. Unfortunately, this material is not readily available in our country that’s why we opted to put tracheostomy tube while waiting for the stent to arrive. After careful consideration of her condition, a tracheostomy tube was placed temporarily to correct the progressing collapse of the airway.

Tracheal stent is a self-expanding metallic stent that spans the affected portion of the trachea providing a sustained patent airway which also optimize the likelihood of positive outcome.

We are happy to share with you that Ate Tuffy celebrated the new year with her family! She is strong, bright and alert. We greatly appreciate her family for giving their full trust and confidence to our Doctors and staffs and for giving Tuffy the best fighting chance possible. It is really inspiring to meet such fur-family.

Tuffy is still under medications to suppress her cough and encourage stent epithelialization aside from her maintenance meds for other health conditions. She is turning 15 next month! ❤️
