Meet OREO, a 10 year old MELANOMA warrior. She was brought to the clinic with bleeding oral cavity and excessive salivation due to a rapidly growing tumor on her upper jaw. Blood tests and biopsy were done confirming the growth as Melanoma which is a type of cancer. Surgical removal of the tumor and adjacent lymph nodes were done. Meet Battery— the fighter furbaby ❤️
Battery was brought to us with bloody nasal discharges, below normal body temperature, labored breathing, and severely dehydrated. Tests were run and he was found to be septic and azotemic. He was diagnosed with Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis caused by Feline Herpesvirus and stayed with us for a month. His was also a case of Antimicrobial Resistance confirmed thru Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST), which meant he is resistant to common antibacterials available in the market.
Cats with Feline Viral Tracheitis succumb to impairment of pulmonary/respiratory defense mechanism predisposing them to other viral and secondary bacterial infection. And if affected concurrently with antimicrobial resistance, managing the disease can be quite challenging and costly.
If you notice your cat with signs like depression, inappetence, difficulty in breathing, ocular discharges, sneezing and nasal discharges(can be clear, yellowish-green or bloody) have your cat checked immediately.
