Introducing the Emerald Betta: Betta Smaragdina
The Betta Smaragdina, also known as the Emerald Betta or the Mekong Fighting Fish, is a beautiful and unique species of betta fish. It is native to the Khorat Plateau in eastern Thailand, where it lives in still or sluggish bodies of water, such as rice paddies, swamps, and roadside ditches.
Betta Smaragdina are known for their striking green and blue coloration. The males have iridescent scales that form a snake-like pattern on their bodies. The females are also green, but they have less pronounced coloration and smaller fins.
Betta Smaragdina are relatively peaceful fish, but males can be aggressive towards each other. They should be kept in separate tanks, or in tanks with non-male betta mates.
Betta Smaragdina are relatively easy to care for. They require a tank that is at least 5 gallons in size, with a heater and filter. They should be fed a diet of live or frozen food, such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.
