Zamioculcas Zamiifolia (more commonly known as the ZZ plant) is one of the most hardy plants around and perfect for any brown thumb or new plant parent. Its nickname, “ZZ plant” derives from the first letters of its name.

Light: ZZ plants prefer bright, indirect light but can still survive in low-light conditions. These plants can even thrive with bright, fluorescent light. This is one of the main reasons why they are a popular choice for indoor spaces with no windows. One key thing to remember is that ZZ plants do not like direct sunlight. Too much direct exposure to the sun can cause scorched or dried-out leaves. If this happens, you should move your plant to a shadier location until its leaves start to resemble their normal, green state.

Water: Allow the soil to dry between watering. Don’t let your plant sit in water because it can easily cause stem and rhizome rot. Your plant can survive months without water, but will grow faster if watered more regularly. It’s always best to underwater than to overwater, since death by root rot is more likely to occur with your ZZ plant than death by water deprivation.

The Ficus Lyrata, more commonly known as the fiddle leaf fig, is one of today’s “it” plants. You’ve most likely seen this gorgeous plant gracing the pages of magazines and the floors of luxurious homes. Its iconic, fiddle-like leaves and dainty veins earned this plant its unique name.

Light: Fiddle leaf figs prefer lots of bright, filtered light. Keep your fiddle leaf fig near a sunny, east-facing window so it can take in lots of sunshine throughout the day.

Water: Wait for the top inch of your fiddle leaf fig tree’s soil to dry before you pick up your watering can. Lukewarm or room temperature water works best since cold water can put plants into shock. Fiddle leaf figs like thorough waterings, but do not like to sit in water. To prevent this, let the water completely drain out from the bottom and ensure the pot’s tray or saucer is dry.

Rubber plants (Ficus elastica)earned their name thanks to their sap, which is sometimes used to make rubber. The rubber plant’s leaves also have a shiny and rubbery appearance. These plants will grow tall and produce beautiful leaves if you give them proper care.

Light: Rubber plants prefer bright, indirect light that isn’t too hot

Water: Keep the soil moist, but not drowning. You should also wipe the leaves down with a damp cloth to keep them moist and to help your plant absorb more sunlight. Misting is another option if you don’t want to wipe down every leaf.
