Here is a majestic photo of a rescued juvenile cheetah from Brevard Zoo, Melbourne, Florida 💖 She currently lives in a positively reinforcing environment where despite her history of aggression, she lives a life filled with love and affection coming from her keepers. She also gets the daily environmental, sensory, and cognitive enrichment she needs to be happy in captivity. Unfortunately, like so many rescue cats we have rehomed and have currently placed up for adoption, it would be unsafe to release this cheetah here back in the wild as the outside world would be dangerous for her biologically and environmentally 💡

Here at Feline Folks, we practice the preaching of "health is wealth". Rehabilitating a cat is costly in itself, so we want to ensure that we minimize costs for nutrition-related deficiencies by providing them with a diet well-planned.

Most symptoms for loss of dietary value are uneconomical 💸, and so that's why here at Feline Folks, we believe that nutritional rehabilitation should be part of the plan as it is a more sensible course of action (both short-term and long-term) not just for us and the cats, but also for the future families of those under our care.

Tofu loves cuddling and sleeping with humans. She loves being kissed and petted. Tofu's sources of entertainment is playing with the dogs in her foster home, playing with interactive toys, and snuffling treats her foster home intentionally hides between crumpled papers (what an enriching activity! 😺). All in all, she is an active kitten and is happy to just laze around most of the time.

Although scooping the litter box is not the top of our day, it gives us the scope to take notice of prognostics undifferentiated from that of diarrhea, f***l obstruction, blood in the waste matter, or an uncommonly-sized set of poo 💩 Should the size of the poo clutter vary, it could point to a biological predicament or other medical cases. DOES Feline Folks SUPPORT THE USE OF HIGH TECHNOLOGY LITTER BOXES? No.

Ok, scooping the litter box is not a pleasant integral of living with cats, but it is what it is. Did you know that self-cleaning litter boxes stand in need for the utility of a designated substrate which may be a feeling cats find unwelcoming and unseemly? Yep. And to top it all off, such classifications of litter boxes may seem roomy, but the true litter surface area for the cat is too teeny and scrubby 🤏🏻

These boxes are also not good for the cats' biological health because they hold back humans from keeping track of what is and isn't ensuing in the litter box. Hooded litter boxes make cats feel more uncomfortable and restricted, and with this, they may have higher chances of settling upon another station in your home to litter on like the bed and such. That is presumptively not a preference anyone would take delight in 🤔

Additionally, if you live in a multi-cat home, do not utilize hooded litter boxes as this may rear troubling circumstances for the cats whenever they have to litter. When cats are born, their immune system is quite open to anything and makes it vulnerable to insanitation. As rescuers are unsure of how much antibodies these cats' moms' milk had produced, what we can do instead is let them have a train of core vaccinations to shield them from being susceptible to different diseases, feline parvovirus being one of them 💉

Note: If you have a cat with history of feline parvovirus, you have to see to it that any new cats setting foot into your home have been fully vaccinated before they arrive since the virus can subsist in the area for a long period of time 😺

As you can see in the photo, Ginger's human sibling gives her the space she needs by fondly watching her from afar! The more Feline Folks takes notice that more cat guardians complain about their companion cat(s)' litter box problems, the more we feel sorry for the cat(s). 😿

The solution is simple. It isn't getting rid of the cat. The most striking course of action is to scoop the litter boxes at least twice a day (not less) and scrub the boxes clean inside out on a regular basis. The most important advice we could give to cat guardians is to limit the number of cats they have in the house. Yes, no hoarding. We don't sit well with those who have more than five cats and such. And, ensure that the ratio of number of cats to number of litter boxes should be 1:+1, meaning if you have one cat, you should have two litter boxes. If you have two cats, you should have three litter boxes, and so on and so forth. And this has been proven by science in the last ten years too! 😺

Litter box management is extremely important, and the risk of not doing so is basically a behavior or biological obstacle expected to turn up 💔

The founder of Feline Folks recently went on a trip to Taiwan for leisure. For two days, her group was at the Alishan National Forest Park Recreation Area, they stumbled upon two chonky community cats in the village center. Not quite feral, but what struck our founder the most was the fact that they seemed well-fed, and that they were actually ear-tipped! For a place in the mountains, that's something remarkable. A touch of humanity, so she'd like to believe 😺

Why eartip? This is so other volunteers and advocates of Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return (TNVR) will know which community cats have already been castrated. Eek, feels so sad for some cats who were not eartipped, but returned to the communities. They'd have to go under the knife again, only to realize they already don't have their balls or their ovaries. And sometimes, spay scars aren't evident. So if you see an eartipped cat walking around your neighborhood, rest assured they aren't feeding the vicious cycle of accidental litters born in the dirtiest of areas 💖 If it interests you, you can actually help and do some TNVR work by fostering and returning a cat or kitten each month!

Tofu just got her first jab of the feline core vaccine last July 3, 2023! 🙌🏻 What a champ! We have a new Feline Folks alumnus!

GINGER FINALLY FOUND A HOME! What a journey it has been, indeed! We never officially posted her up for adoption because from the very start, she had a home waiting for her. But then due to no fault of her own, Ginger was returned to us. She did find a foster-to-adopt home for a short period of time, two weeks, but that did not work out well. This madame has food allergies, so it really took time to find the right home for her. She withstood so many storms and trials with life outside the streets, AND WE ARE EXTREMELY OVERJOYED THAT GINGER FINALLY FOUND A GOOD HOME WE FELT SO COMFORTABLE WITH! 🥰

We are so happy for her (tears of joy levels) and I am sure her vets will be too, when they hear the good news! We are going to miss her so much, but we are also excited for all the adventures she'll be having with her humans! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Ginger will finally be in safe hands. And this success story pushes us to keep going further with this advocacy! We'll post a photo of Ginger with her new family (with consent) soon! 👯‍♀️

As feline parvovirus is a viral disease, vetting should be primarily contributory until the kitten can synthesize antibodies of their own to counter the virus 💉 That said, if symptoms persist, consult your veterinarian!

In the case of Tofu, Feline Folks, with the urgent attention of Urban Tails, was able to send Tofu up for early intervention at the Animal Kingdom Veterinary Hospital. Thus, Tofu was able to power through the virus despite its mortality rate. She was symptomatic though as she had diarrhea and mucus-like eye discharge that was not anything like tear stains at all 😺

For cats going through feline parvovirus, it is essential for them to have sufficient hydration and electrolyte stability (Tofu had IV fluids as she was admitted in the animal hospital). Antibiotics may also be needed to nurse secondary bacterial infections. It is also pressing for the cat to have complete vitamins and minerals in their bodies to be able to have the endurance to battle against the infection 🥷🏻

Jackie has been returned to Feline Folks due to no fault of her own, so the search continued for our sweet eleven month old baby 💖 Today she turns eleven months old!

She got it all! Kids? Does great with them. Dogs? She tolerates them. Humans? Big cuddle energy. She naps hard, but plays even harder. We could go on and on about this girl all day, so her new home definitely got a gem! 💎

Good news is, Jackie immediately found a new home! But before that, we had to observe Jackie's behavior and physical needs if it really matched what her previous adopters had said about her. Then, we screened her new home, and are keeping close contact with them. As much as possible, we want the rehoming experience to be not stressful for Jackie, so we're crossing fingers the approved one will finally be her forever! 💖 Remember, cats can take more than a decade of commitment and care!

Two years is such a profuse amount of time for cats to grow and reach adulthood. Do note however that Feline Folks believes what science has said that breed does not affect the life expectancy of a cat. It is their lifestyle, genetics, and environment that does 💖

Feline Folks would still recommend for cats with parvovirus to be isolated from all other animals, regardless of specie type, once infected, and vice versa. This is because some traces of parvovirus can still spread to other species 💖

Feline Folks Update on Tofu: Tofu was mandatorily tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FLV), and tested negative. She is scheduled for mandatory testing for Feline Calicivirus (FCV) next week before she gets her first jab of the core vaccine. She is also currently recovering well from Feline Parvovirus under the care of her foster home, Urban Tails 💖

Ngl, it's a pretty heavy week for us here at Feline Folks 💔

This morning, when our Manang Feeder went on her usual rounds to feed our TNVR candidates, she saw Tony, our oldest TNVR friend, lying dead cold in the feeding area. He never showed signs of lethargy, but then again, cats are good at masking emotions. We blame ourselves for not paying more more attention, but then situations like this are inevitable 💔 We gained an angel, but forever he will be in our hearts.

Did you know that cats can experience whisker fatigue?

This is why Feline Folks never cuts the whiskers of cats, and we are pretty sure a lot of you don't as well! 💖 Their whiskers are an important part of their body as it can help them with their normal behaviors, essentially in terms of communication. Their whiskers take and process information for them. The receptors are regulated by the cat's internal and external surroundings, which touches on how they carry on different circumstances significantly. Because of this, cats might sometimes be tied up with so much information, hence they come down with anxiety and trauma 😺

The best way to assess what underlying conditions your cat has when symptoms show through their body is by means of a veterinary examination. Self-assessment is an irresponsible course of action. During the process of adopting a cat, these conditions should be valued as well 🧑🏻‍⚕️

Sad but hopeful news from Feline Folks 💖

Ginger has been returned to us due to no fault of her own over a month ago, and we had to observe her behaviors yet again, and check on her allergies. Other than being allergic to poultry variants, Ginger is an overall healthy cat! That said, we are putting her up for adoption again! She is ready for pick-up as she is fully rehabilitated!

Feline parvovirus is an unquestionably powerful one. Perhaps Tofu already carried it on the day she was rescued by Feline Folks as she looked so runty, and despite being an energetic kitten, her appetite was not as normal as others' 😺

Fortunately, Tofu was able to power through under the gifted brains of Animal Kingdom Veterinary Hospital, and the care of her foster home, Urban Tails 💖 Given that, we would want to shed light on why feline parvovirus should not be taken for granted. Tofu was admitted last June 7, 2023 for a week and is now recovering from Feline Parvovirus (FPV) with foster home, Urban Tails ❤️ Despite the high mortality rate of the disease, Tofu powered through and we hope this continues to be so, so she could finally get her first jab for the core vaccine 🫶🏻
