We have noticed a terrible INCREASE of Parvo patients over the past few weeks. It is common knowledge that Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that usually affects unvaccinated puppies.

THERE IS NO MEDICINE TO KILL THE VIRUS ONCE IT INFECTS THE DOG.

𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝘾𝙤-𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙝𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨

Omersbey, a 3-year-old male Dutch Shepherd, was presented to our veterinary clinic with a history of lethargy and loss of appetite for the past three days. Omersbey is an outdoor dog and freely roams around their home. He had an unupdated DHPPiL vaccine, with his last vaccination administered over a year ago.

Upon examination, Omersbey appeared lethargic and had a re**al temperature of 40.6°C. CBC was done and the result showed mild anemia and thrombocytopenia (decreased platelet count). Although presence of ticks were not seen upon physical examination and his owner is unsure about Omers' exposure to ticks, we decided to get him tested for tick-borne diseases and Leptospirosis, since these are quite common to cause such results. 𝙊𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙗𝙚𝙮 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙀𝙝𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨.

Serum blood chemistry test and electrolyte panel test were also done for us to have more information about Omers' case that would be helpful in developing our treatment plan. With the owner's remarkable cooperation, we have managed to treat Omersbey and he is now back to his playful and happy self.

𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙀𝙝𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨 :

𝙀𝙝𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨 :
📌 Carried by ticks (a.k.a. garapata/libon)
📌 Common signs include fever, weakness, loss of appetite and bleeding problems.
📌 Can be prevented by monthly oral or injectable anti-tick and flea medications.

𝙇𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨 :
📌 Can be contracted by direct contact with infected urine or contaminated water sources, through bite wounds or otherwise damaged skin, by eating infected tissue, or exposure during birth.
📌 Early findings are nonspecific and includes fever, weakness, loss of appetite, changes in urine amount, jaundice ( yellowing of the skin and mucus membranes).
📌 Can be prevented by vaccination.
📌 Zoonotic (can be transmitted to humans)
