An adult intact female husky was referred to the clinic with a chief complaint of profuse vaginal discharge and inappetence. She was also diagnosed with ehrlichiosis and is undergoing a thirty-day course treatment.
Upon ultrasound, an inflamed uterus was observed. Blood works showed leukocytosis and anemia.

Disease Diagnosis: PYOMETRA

Pyometra is a secondary infection due to hormonal changes in a female's reproductive tract. Following estrus (heat), progesterone levels remain elevated for several weeks, stimulating the uterine lining to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. This is a serious and life threatening infection in the uterus.

The preferred treatment is to surgically remove the uterus and ovaries by performing an ovariohysterectomy (spay).

Urethrostomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening in the urethra in cases of urethral obstruction caused by trauma, protein plugs, stones, strictures.
