Rabies can kill, but can be prevented with vaccination ๐
Recently, an outbreak was reported in Marinduque affecting livestocks including cows and pigs, which was suspected to be bitten by a stray.
Earlier reported cases was that of a golden retriever that tested positive for rabies. This case also made noise in social media due to animal welfare concerns.
Again rabies is not to be taken lightly. A young life has to end because of this deadly disease๐ฅบ, a teenager which was bitten by a pup in Tondo, Manila succumbed to this disease ( article by GMA News below) .
Part of ending this disease requires our involvement as responsible pet owners. Preventive for rabies can be administered as early as 3 months old.
A 13-year-old girl died after being bitten by a rabid dog last February, according to Darlene Cay's exclusive report on 24 Oras Weekend.
โSabi niya, 'Mama hindi na ako maka-inom, hirap na akong maka-inom ng tubig. Mama, baka may rabies na ako.' Doon sa narinig ko na may rabies. Sabi ko, 'Bakit? Nakagat ka ba ng a*o?'โ said Jamaicaโs mother, Roselyn.
It turned out that Jamaica had been bitten by a dog last February at the Vitas Park in Tondo. At the time, she told her parents that she had been caught on a wire, which had caused her wound.
โSabi ko bakit ngayon ka lang nag-sabi? Sabi niya, Mama, sorry Mama, sorry sabi niyang ganon. Sabi ko hindi naman ako magaglit sayo kung sinabi mo, dapat naagapan. โMa, mamamatay na ba ako, mamamatay na ba ako?โ Doon ako kinabahan parang gusto ko nang mag-hysterical,โ Roselyn said.
According to doctors, it may take a few days, weeks, or months before the symptoms of a person infected with rabies appear. So, if an individual is bitten, licked, or scratched by a dog, it would be best to clean the wound immediately and rush to the nearest health center or hospital.
The injury should not be ignored because rabies is deadly.
