Have you noticed that most of our dogs these days are infested with ticks?

What is Tick Paralysis?

Tick paralysis is an uncommon but deadly illness induced by a neurotoxic found in the saliva of certain female ticks. This neurotoxic induces paralysis in the dog's lower extremities, which then 'ascends' up the body to the upper extremities. Ascending paralysis is the name given to this type of paralysis. Symptoms normally appear two to seven days after a tick has been attached.

If your dog begins to exhibit the traditional signs in conjunction with finding an attached tick on them, tick paralysis can be easily diagnosed. If your dog develops growing weakness and lameness in the back end following a stroll in the woods or park, your veterinarian will conduct a thorough examination, searching hard-to-reach areas for ticks.

Bring your dog to your nearest clinic right away if he or she is experiencing any further symptoms, such as vomiting or elevated blood pressure. Alternatively, you can bring your pets to RESPONSIVet Animal Clinic.
