Sen. Grace Poe welcomed propositions to further enhance the Revised Animal Welfare Bill amid concerns from animal welfare groups.
Poe, sponsor of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2975, took to the plenary Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to address misconceptions and allay concerns about the provisions of the Senate-approved measure. She said the bill, while revising old animal welfare laws, outlines a more comprehensive and enforceable policy for animal protection, which includes the creation of an Animal Welfare Bureau dedicated for protecting not only domesticated animals, but also wildlife, against abuse and neglect.
The proposed Revised Animal Welfare Act will augment existing laws on wildlife protection, Poe added.
SBN 2975 garnered the unanimous approval of the Senate on June 2, awaiting a counterpart bill in the House of Representatives.
"Any group that has concerns about this bill, you can still submit [your suggestions]...We are partners, we are not adversaries in this," said Poe, as she urged groups to formally communicate their concerns to the Senate.
