RABIES AWARENESS‼️
P, a rescued dog from an abandoned house, presented at the clinic with symptoms such as lethargy, fever, nasal discharges, and behavioral changes (anxious and aggressive). P had no prior history of vaccination or deworming and had recently given birth to 5 puppies just 5 days ago. We conducted laboratory tests to rule out other infectious diseases, and the results for Canine distemper came out negative. The complete blood count revealed severe anemia and leukopenia. Unfortunately, the owner declined further tests for Blood Chemistry and Tick-borne Diseases. Therefore, we provided supportive treatment to the patient.
P exhibited progressive neurological signs, including ataxia, cage-biting, and heightened sensitivity to light, sound, and touch. Breathing difficulties also developed, and tragically, the patient passed away the following morning. We explained to the owner the possibility of Rabies infection, and she agreed to send a sample for testing. Regrettably, the RABIES TEST CAME BACK POSITIVE.
The clinic has undergone a thorough disinfection. We want to express our gratitude to the City Veterinary Office of Davao for conducting the test.
