🚨 Case Spotlight: Prostate Gland Inflammation in Dogs 🐕

Recently, we had a challenging case that highlights the importance of timely diagnostics and personalized care. Our patient presented with symptoms that included watery, loose stools, vomiting, and inappetence. Notably, he also showed prolonged straining to defecate, taking 3-4 minutes in each attempt – a sign that something more concerning might be going on.

An X-ray confirmed our suspicions: the prostate gland (red arrows) was significantly enlarged and inflamed, making both defecation and urination uncomfortable. Thankfully, with the aid of our diagnostic tools and a tailored treatment plan, we were able to intervene early. After a week of confinement and consistent medication, his symptoms improved considerably. His stool gained consistency, he no longer struggled to defecate, and his appetite returned with no further vomiting episodes.

Prostate enlargement in dogs can stem from various causes – infection, benign hyperplasia, or even tumors. Through targeted care, we successfully reduced the inflammation, and his prostate returned to normal within a week.

This case is a testament to the importance of diagnostics and prompt treatment. We're grateful to see him healthy and symptom-free again! 🐾

🐾 Recent Respiratory Cases: Collapsing Trachea in Dogs 🐶

Lately, we've encountered several respiratory cases at the clinic, one of which involved a patient with collapsing trachea. This condition is commonly seen in small breed dogs, such as Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians, Toy Poodles, and Chihuahuas.

Physical examination by our veterinarian raised the suspicion for tracheal collapse due to an inducible cough upon tracheal palpation. One of the key symptom to watch out for is a distinctive "honking" cough, which can be triggered by excitement, pulling on the leash, or even during rest.

Using our in-house X-ray, we have confirmed that there is narrowing of the trachea (red arrow) seen extending from the cervical trachea caudally to the cranial thorax.

If your pet is showing signs of respiratory distress or unusual coughing, it’s important to get them checked as soon as possible. Early detection and proper management can help them breathe easier! 🩺❤️
