Not deworming your dog is like opening up a can of worms!!

Why? These gastrointestinal parasites live rent-free in your dog's intestines, and without proper deworming, they may cause disastrous effects to your dog! Worms like roundworms may cause severe symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, dull hair, and even death! :(

But don't worry! Proper deworming makes all these diseases preventable!
Don't forget to visit the Veterinary Teaching Hospital to get your pet dewormed today! ;)

Canine Anaplasmosis: What You Need to Know

Anaplasmosis is a bacterial disease that affects dogs and other animals. It is transmitted by ticks, especially the black-legged tick and the brown dog tick.

Dogs with anaplasmosis may show signs such as fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, lameness, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding or neurological problems. However, some dogs may have no symptoms at all or only mild ones. The disease can be diagnosed by a blood test that detects antibodies or DNA of the bacteria.

The treatment for anaplasmosis is usually a course of antibiotics for two to four weeks. Most dogs respond well to treatment and recover fully. However, some dogs may have complications such as immune-mediated diseases or co-infections with other tick-borne diseases.

The best way to prevent anaplasmosis is to protect your dog from ticks. Use a year-round tick preventative product recommended by your veterinarian and check your dog for ticks daily. Avoid areas where ticks are abundant and remove any attached ticks promptly.

If you suspect your dog has anaplasmosis or has been exposed to ticks, contact your veterinarian for advice and testing. Anaplasmosis can be a serious disease but it can be treated effectively if detected early.
