PUBLIC ADVISORY

In line with the numerous reports and complaints against unscrupulous live animal sellers, both online and in-person, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) hereby reminds the public to avoid patronage of pet, exotic animals, and livestock sellers, traders, breeders or transporters without the BAI Certificate of Registration - License to Operate Animal Facility as required by the Republic Act 8485, The Animal Welfare Act of 1998 as amended by R.A. 10631.

The following are smart tips before acquiring an animal:

1. Acquire animals only from reputable animal breeder/seller and duly registered at BAI or Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Offices (Please see List of Registered Animal Facilities at bai.gov.ph);

2. Do not be impulsive or compulsive buyer. Research as much as you can about the needs of thr animal according to species, breed, age, or health condition before acquisition ;

3. Ensure that the animal is in good health condition. Require the seller to provide copy of the Veterinary Health Certificate (VHC), or vaccination or health records, duly signed by a registered veterinarian;

4. Secure a written Terms and Conditions or after-sales agreement between you and the seller;

5. Be a responsible animal owner. Exercise due diligence and caution before acquiring an animal.

If you wish to have a pet dog or cat, BAI recommends adopting pets from legitimate animal pounds or animal shelters in your area
