The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 and the DTI Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development Group-One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program Management Office (PMO) recently organized a comprehensive information campaign via Zoom on 20 March 2024.
Over 170 participants, including representatives from the DTI R2 Provincial Offices, Trade Promotion Officers, Business Counselors, and stakeholders from local government units, private sectors, and MSMEs, attended the event.
The campaign aimed to foster collaboration among relevant agencies and raise awareness about the OTOP Philippines Act, Republic Act 11960, signed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on August 25, 2023. This legislation offers assistance packages to MSMEs, enabling them to enhance their products through innovation, quality improvement, design, packaging, compliance with standards, and brand development.
Usec. Cris Roque from DTI-MSME Development Group reiterated the agency's dedication to advancing the OTOP program in line with its strategic objectives, outlining available assistance and interventions for MSMEs.
Key points discussed during the session included the establishment of the OTOP Philippines Trustmark, covered products and services, beneficiary qualifications, components, and implementing regulations, presented by STIDS Merlene Membrere of OTOP PMO.
In his closing remarks, DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Director, Atty. Michael Paggabao, highlighted the comprehensive framework of the OTOP law, synergizing with DTI R2's Buy Local initiative to bolster MSMEs, expand markets, and enhance livelihoods.
Looking ahead, an OTOP PMO roadshow will delve into guideline specifics, delineating roles and responsibilities for regional and provincial DTI offices, LGUs, national agencies, and private sector partners to ensure effective OTOP Philippines Act implementation.
