PLEASE SHARE *** HELP SAVE "SAVEY'S" VISION ***

Dear friends, this little baby really needs your help. She was reported to us just this morning with terrible eye infections. We're still hoping we can at least save one eye, but even that may not be possible in the end. But we will do everything we can to get her treated and happy, no matter what.

Dear visitor! We are overjoyed that there is now an active animal welfare group in Boracay itself. For us at AARRC, Boracay was always too far and cumbersome with the ferry crossing and distance. Of course, we will continue to support this excellent group of volunteers and wish them much luck and many succesful rescues. Here's to our continued cooperation for the animals!!!

Please refer any Boracay-based rescue requests to BAARC from now on. Thank you.

For Adoption:

Ivory is looking for a forever home.
This lovely girl is approximately 3 years old, and is very friendly, gentle and affectionate.
She is toilet trained (litter box) and used to indoor living.

Her story:
Ivory was abandoned when her owner moved away from the island and left her behind. This sweet little cat is used to being around people and trusts everybody. Having been suddenly left without food or shelter, she'd obviously been looking for something to eat in somebody's kitchen, and they threw boiling water or oil all over her back, causing her horrific burns. She was also pregnant at the time. Thankfully, a concerned neighbour called us to pick her up, and she has since been in our care. Her wounds have now completely healed.

She is sweet-natured, and easy to handle, despite how cruel people have previously been to her. She's a quiet, gentle, loving little cat, who just likes to sit beside you and enjoy your company.

Adopters should be:
* Experienced & responsible cat owners
* Committed to having Ivory spayed
* Living in a secure home, away from busy roads or prepared to keep Ivory as an indoor cat
* Able to give her a secure place in the home, so she can be kept inside for at least 2 weeks to settle in, if she's to be let outside
* If the home has children, the children must understand to be gentle around cats.
* A FOREVER home; cats can live up to 20+ years. If you can't commit to potentially having Ivory with you for the rest of her natural life, don't apply!

SAY NO TO FIREWORKS 🚫

No display in the world is worth the fear, pain and suffering our pets endure as a result of fireworks.

We bet not all fireworks in the world could light up your life like your animals do. So why let them suffer?

Animals also deserve a HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥰 We can still celebrate this season without fireworks or any firecrackers 🧨 Happy New Year everything! 🐱🐶

You may have seen some street cats on Boracay with the tip of one ear missing.

These are cats who have been neutered or spayed and the ear was "tipped" at the same time, whilst the cat was under anaesthetic.

Some of my lovely and sweet cats are up for adoption. They are litter trained and spayed except for Ella. I prefer that they stay indoors because they are not used to staying outside the house. Please consider adopting and loving them. They will surely complete your family.
Btw.. adopters will be screened. Thank you everyone!❤️

Sharing this again, as one year on, since I wrote this, we're still facing the same struggle.

Thanks to the generous contributions from local and international donors, volunteers from Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (AARRC) are able to continue their feeding and rescue efforts here on the island.

AARRC, a privately funded, non-profit organization and registered charity based in Andagao, Kalibo, are entirely reliant on both private donations and the efforts of volunteers. Boracay-based animal lovers continue to rise to the challenge, distributing food and medication to the stray and abandoned dogs and cats on our streets.

Founded by Dutch national Michel van der Kleijj, AARRC aims to rescue, rehome and rehabilitate our four-legged friends, and his purpose-built animal shelter in Andagao, Kalibo, continues to do just that, now housing some 120 dogs and 90 cats on a 4000 square meter enclosure.

This month’s donated supplies of cat and dog food from both overseas and national sponsors enabled AARRC volunteers to once again step up and bring much needed nutrition to the stray and abandoned animals on the island, and to medicate those who are suffering from debilitating but easily treatable conditions such as mange mites.

Quarantine, lockdowns, and the resulting unemployment and austerity affecting Boracay’s human population will inevitably impact our animal companions here, and with many families now lacking the budget to take care of their pets, and others simply abandoning them, the need for animal advocacy and care has never been greater.

As voiced by AARRC : “Many of these free-roaming strays had formerly been reliant on the kindness of tourists for their survival, and were also able to avail of leftovers from restaurant kitchens or diners. With the island’s economy at a near stand-still, these vital lifelines have been cut off. Now, more than ever, they need our compassion,”

If you’d like to share the love for animal rescue here on the island, be sure to hit up www.aklananimalrescue.com to donate, foster or just pay it forward.

Animal Rescue Boracay by AARRC

Animal Rescue Boracay is a community of volunteers and animal lovers that was founded by Aklan Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Center in Kalibo. Our mission is helping and caring for cats and dogs in need for food, care and rescue.

In cooperation with the local authorities we are on the way to implement a sustainaible stray animal containment plan. The goal is to reduce the animal population on the Island of Boracay, in an animal friendly way. Please support our work!
