Meet Papi, a brave, male belgian shepherd from a local farm. Papi was initially admitted to a nearby clinic after showing signs of weakness, lethargy, and a poor appetite. Lab results revealed he was battling babesiosis and ehrlichiosis-both tick borne diseases-as well as leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can also be very serious.
When Papi arrived at our clinic, he was in critical condition—recumbent, severely low on platelets, and suffering from jaundice. But thanks to prompt and aggressive treatment, we were able to stabilize him. Over the next few days, Papi made a remarkable recovery, and his condition improved significantly.
Today, we’re thrilled to share that Papi is back on his feet and headed home to the farm, ready to continue his duties.
We’re so grateful to his owner for trusting us with Papi’s care. This case serves as an important reminder about the dangers of tick-borne diseases, and the importance of timely intervention and the right treatment plan.
