Tips to Calm your Dog During a Storm

1. Provide your dog with a secure spot to retreat to during a storm. When dogs are scared, they seek out places where they feel safest, such as a kennel, a closet, or under the bed covers.

2. Stay calm during a storm. Comforting your dog when he's scared might reinforce his fear. Instead, be present without making a fuss. Distract him from the noise by engaging in activities he enjoys, like playing fetch or brushing his fur

3. Counteract the frightening sounds with music, TV, or white noise. Some certified veterinary behaviorists suggest that classical music can work wonders for scared pets.

4. Consider using a Thundershirt – this snug garment wraps around your dog, providing gentle, constant pressure similar to swaddling a baby. It can help soothe some dogs and induce a calmer state.
