“When you climb a tree, you discover a new universe.”

Sydney Collier was diagnosed with Wyburn-Mason Syndrome.

Less than 1% of the world’s population would have this disease.

At a tender age of seven, she had the first of her three brain surgeries, as well as first of five strokes.

Despite the many obstacles and challenges she’s faced in her young life, she is one of the most positive human beings I’ve had a pleasure of meeting.

She has competed at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, 2014 World Paralympic Games and reserve rider at the Tokyo Paralympics.

With the generous support of and her incredible mom, Anna, Sydney is training everyday to qualify and compete in Paris 2024 for Team USA. 🇺🇸

She is truly an inspiration to us all. Impossible is nothing. We are rooting for you, Syds💪

Whatever is meant to happen. Will.

Gena first came to Manila as a 16yo girl from the remote Island of Dinagat, Surigao. Youngest of 12 children, she is the only one of her siblings who had finished high school and eventually earned a college degree BS Computer Science. Her parents were very proud!

Today I met her fiancé, Ralf Palmetshofer from Austria. And they are expecting a baby boy, Fin, in September.

Life is full of surprises 💖 indeed!

Happy is clearly happy with Marites Gozon-Viterbo. What a lucky horse! She knows it, as she’s even willing to double as a day bed 😂🤣

She was LeEP’s most famous resident. Leap of Faith‘s offspring. The one and only.

I still remember meeting her sire, the handsome stallion, Parco, son of legendary jumping stud, Darco, both ridden by four-time Belgian Olympian Ludo Philippaerts.

Conceived in Belgium but born at LeEP. Just before the break of dawn, some 19 years ago. Out in the open field, with all the other horses solicitously watching from a distance, nearly in awe.

She may not have turned out to be the exceptional athlete her mother was. But she had other qualities that earned her the moniker ‘Spunky!’ Meaning: courageous and determined.

She taught many riders and tortured others. Appeared in several telenovelas, movies and magazines. And was once even Philippine Jumping Champion with Andrea Belofsky in 2010.

She never seemed to care for any of it, just did her job like a true comrade would.

She fought bravely til the end. And took a piece of our hearts when she left us.

How many ways can you say goodbye to a friend?

Just goodbye. We will all miss you much.

When a flower blooms, truth comes to light. Purity. Without malice nor envy.

Simply being. Yet becoming. In patient motion. Never ceasing to seize the day. Enjoying the wins, accepting the loses, embracing the process.

A flower blooms, without comparing its beauty to another. As if knowing that the universe is conspiring in its favour.

Wearing its crown ever so gently. While astounding the observer with its glory. Mesmerising.

😇 Rest in Peace Edong. We already miss your smile, laughter and kindness.

We learn something from everyone we meet.

I met Vivas in 2016. He lived a very different life in the north of Sweden. Yet he is, as he had always been from the day we met. Unwavering. Undemanding. Uncomplicated.

There is something meditative watching his stillness underneath those trees, basking unknowingly radiant in the afternoon sun, far away from what was once his home. I can’t help behold how he remains to JUST BE.

To BE where you are...trusting the moments in between. How easy you make it all seem.

A smile behind the mask.

Not long ago, when this coach’s corner was newly constructed, I wished that I could just stay there and go...nowhere! Now I know why they say: “be careful what you wish for”😅

It has been a challenge, to say the least, to stay positive and focused. Some days harder than others. When I find my enthusiasm waning and goals blurring, I remind myself out loud: “today is the first day of the rest of my life!” A cliche, I know. But self-motivation is vital for an athlete; now more than ever, when the only thing globetrotting is the corona virus 🦠, making travel to international competitions ambiguous. So I look for even the simplest things that make me smile and just like that, I truly do!😀

I smiled upon receiving these unique, proudly Filipino made face masks from FINO Leatherware; awed by that gorgeous sheen on Amber’s coat and how Edong’s care and detailed attention helped her glow; that the sun came out today after a downpour of evening rain, keeping the bougainvilleas in full bloom and the goat we call ‘Billy’ at the farm surprisingly gave birth to this cute little ‘kid’ today!🙌

It does take discipline to look for the positives in life; no matter how seemingly insignificant. As it’s all too easy to be immobilized by fear of the unknown.

Though it remains difficult to make plans in these uncertain times; one thing’s certain- this too, shall pass. Until then, find something to smile about.🙃

When I was in 7th grade I participated in an extemporaneous speaking contest; where the question was: if you could dream any dream, what would it be?

“I dream of a place where horses roam freely and live like they would in paradise. A sanctuary for horses, where humans are only guests.” This is what my heart wanted to say; instead, I said “I dream of world peace...” Of course, who doesn’t? Even 12-year olds know this is the ‘right answer!’ 😅😆

I didn’t win that contest.

And just like that, a brief magical moment brought me to the realization that the dreams of the heart are the truths of one’s soul. I may not have said it out loud in 7th grade, but energy does find a way to manifest itself.

World peace is still my final answer though😉

Praise God in everything!
