for good
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT on how to be most helpful when it comes to posts that are searching for help for an animal in need. β£οΈ
Examples of NOT helpful comments on rescue pages searching for help for an animal:
1. βBring it inside!β
2. βTake it to the vet!β
3. βWhy are you just standing there taking pictures and videos instead of helping!β
4. βWhy didnβt you help it yet!β
5. βSomebody please help!β
If I am posting for help, it is because HELP IS NEEDEDβΌοΈ
1β¦Obviously the finder is unable to bring the animal inside for whatever reason if it has not been brought inside. Maybe step up and offer to hold temporarily yourself until help can be found.
2β¦Are you covering the Veterinary cost? The average person who finds an injured animal cannot afford to rush it to the vet and cover the cost. Most also canβt or donβt know how to provide proper care. That is why posts are made searching for rescue help or financial help in order to get the animal the help it needs.
3β¦ When making a post for help, photos and videos help grab peopleβs attention more than just a post of words. This also allows rescuers to see the severity of the situation. This helps them determine whether they are physically and financially capable of stepping up for the animal in need based on whatβs going on.
4β¦Why didnβt YOU help??? These posts searching for help are doing more to find help for the animal than your negative comments about what SHOULD be done.
5β¦YOU could be that somebody!! This could be YOUR chance to help. Why does everyone always just expect that someone else will do it? οΏΌ
Examples of HELPFUL comments on rescue pages searching for help for an animal:
1. βIβll reach out to some other rescues directly to see if they can help.β (Any actual action steps are super helpful and appreciated!!)
2. βI can transport if help can be found.β
3. βSharing to try to find help!β
4. βCommenting for visibilityβ, βSending prayersβ, etc. All comments help boost the post in the FB algorithm so more people see the post and hopefully it gets in front of the right person who can help.
When a rescue page is posting asking for help, there is no need to try telling them what needs to be done. We are well aware of what needs to happen. We do not have an unending supply of money or space to stash every animal that someone reaches out to us about. If there is a post looking for help, it is because HELP IS NEEDED and we are unable to physically or financially help the animal ourselves. The post IS a way of HELPING!!! Negative comments, degrading, and saying what should be done differently⦠Not helpful!
