𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡? Yes, that’s right: dogs can get 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙑𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙪𝙢𝙤𝙧 (𝙏𝙑𝙏) through physical contact. This condition can be found in both male and female dogs and is more common in areas where stray dogs roam freely and have contact with one another. It is most commonly spread during mating but can also be transmitted during routine sniffing or other contact. In most cases, tumor growth is found on the ge****ls, but it can also affect noses, mouths, a**l areas, and other anatomical sites.

Diagnosis is made either by biopsy (taking a small piece of tumor tissue for a**lysis) or by cytology (obtaining a smear of the tumor’s cells and examining it under a microscope).

Treatment is generally rewarding and includes chemotherapy and/or surgery.

Kisses, a 4-year-old mixed breed dog, was rescued from the streets and diagnosed with TVT at Fur Bloom Animal Clinic. She is very fortunate that her new family has been taking care of her since she was adopted, and she has now completed her chemotherapy.

Rabies can be prevented. However, in the past months the number of rabies cases in our country continues to rise and the worse part is all cases ended up in fatalities. Therefore, we want to take part in the efforts to prevent and eradicate rabies nationwide.

The summer heat can be unforgiving! Here’s some helpful information and tips for fur parents about 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗞𝗘!

Signs: Distressed/restless behavior, excessive panting and drooling, weakness, unsteady walking, bruising, gums becoming red or blue/purple, re**al temperature over
41° C.

What to do: These symptoms warrant immediate evaluation by a veterinarian. Remove your pet from the hot environment, cool him gradually with fans, and apply wet (but wrung-out) towels to his/her body (especially the head, armpits, and groin). DO NOT place him/her in a cold/ice bath. Stop cooling your pet when his temperature reaches 39° C.

Keep safe from the summer heat!

𝐏𝐘𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐀 case.
 
Lala is a 6-year-old intact female shih tzu who presents for loss of appetite, weakness, and diarrhea. On presentation, she was dehydrated with a distended and tensed abdomen. After performing blood tests and a sonographic examination, she was diagnosed with close-cervix 𝗣𝗬𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗥𝗔.
 
Surgical removal of the infected reproductive tract was successfully performed at Fur Bloom Animal Clinic. She is now fully recovered and back to her normal self!

𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐬.

Both dogs and cats are known to swallow non-food materials. It is by nature that our furry friends are curious and will often use their mouth to investigate on everything. While dogs are notorious for consuming table scraps, food wrappers, papers, sticks, socks/cloth, and pieces of toys, cats are known to swallow linear foreign objects such as strings, floss and yarn. Often, they will pass these foreign objects through their gastrointestinal tract without any problem. However, if a foreign object lodges within the gastrointestinal tract, it leads to obstruction, and surgery is the only treatment.

Meet Flake, a 4-year-old mixed breed dog presented for vomiting. Flake was initially treated as an out-patient but after persistent vomiting at home, he was admitted for more aggressive supportive care. While at the hospital, serial abdominal radiographs were performed that ultimately led to a decision for surgical abdominal exploration. An obstructing foreign material (piece of toy) was successfully retrieved from his small intestine. Luckily, the obstructing foreign material only caused minor tissue trauma. Now, Flake is fully recovered and back to his normal self! He is such a brave boy and is so loved by his family.

Foreign body obstruction is a life-threatening condition for both dogs and cats. Prognosis is based on the location and type of the foreign body, duration of the obstruction, and the health status of your pet prior to surgery. When your pet is persistently vomiting and you suspect that he/she swallowed a foreign object, do not hesitate to contact your trusted vet.
