It is a good sign to see the puppies are opening their eyes, though they cannot see yet. Hopefully the puppies will continue to develop well in the coming weeks.
On the third week, puppies will start to hear little by little. By the fourth week, the puppies can already be weaned, meaning eating on their own. By the sixth week, you can observe the mom dog will start to discourage the puppies from nursing.
By eight week, puppies should already be independent from their mom. But mom's presence is always important to teach the little puppies, proper puppy behavior.

Watch out this weekend! Sky's puppies are 1 month old and ready for the camera.
This video is taken Oct. 11 (just a few days from whelping). Now all grown up... walking around the house.
Watch out for it on Saturday!
Sky is getting familiar with a new whelping box.
We hope with the new build, it will give her added privacy and comfort. Two heating lamps can be installed. At the moment, we have one bulb, which based on temperature testing is sufficient to keep newborn puppies warm. We will add one more bulb should it be needed.
No flooring yet. We will add a rubber mat for extra cushioning should Sky deliver the puppies standing up. A lot of used paper will be added for nesting and clean up. Whelping can be very messy and keeping clean is top priority.
Ten days more and we start monitoring her temperature. If it drops, we know Sky is ready.
We are all anxious and excited. We hope all goes well.
