Interesting Points About Dog Nail Problems to Consider:

🧚‍♀️Dogs should not bite at their nails to “trim” or “shorten” them. If your dog is biting at a single nail or multiple nails, he or she is most likely itchy around the nails.

🧚‍♀️Trauma to nails may happen in various forms—human error during nail clipping (too close to the nail bed) can lead to problems.

🧚‍♀️Be gentle and careful while trimming dog nails. Learn the correct technique from your veterinary technician or groomer, if needed.

🧚‍♀️For black nails, it is tough to ascertain the length a nail should be trimmed. Trim conservatively if in doubt, or trust your groomer with the nail trimming.

🧚‍♀️Indoor dogs and dogs that walk only on soft surfaces may have longer nails due to less wear on the nails.

🧚‍♀️Don’t forget the dewclaw nail (the nail higher up on the paw similar to our thumb). Also check and regularly trim this nail.

🧚‍♀️Handle your dog’s paws often and check for nail health and foreign material (grass, twigs, tar, etc.) in paw hairs will help you keep on top of good pedal health for your dog. Check your pet’s paws at least 1-2 times a week. This also helps your dog trust you in case if you need to evaluate his or her paws, in case of a problem.

When your dog is matted, groomers believe in doing what is best for your dog. In many cases, this means shaving the mats out of your dog. Shaving is not a “short cut” to get the job done quickly, this can be a very slow, tedious and dangerous process. We are working on areas of your dog where skin is thin, likely already irritated and sometimes their hair is being pulled because of tight mats. Removing a heavily matted coat includes risks of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles and skin folds trapped and hidden within the matted hair. Therefore, shaving a matted dog must be done slowly with utmost care.

Puppy cuts and teddy bear cuts refer to the same style of cut. It means that the hair is the same length at all parts of the body. Even adult dogs will look puppy-like with this style.

Tips on how to prepare your furbaby to your desired furstyle:

1. Daily brush your furbaby's fur. Especially on the back of their ears, armpit and in between legs.

2. Brush your furbaby's fur before getting into the bath. Make sure to remove tangled fur before getting them wet or else it will just get worse and can cause to be matted upto the skin.

3. Use conditioner when bathing.

4. Make sure to dry your furbaby while brushing after bathing.

5. Release your furbaby with totally dried and brushed fur to prevent matting. Wet fur can cause severe matting.

Why do dogs have double coats?

What can a pet-parent do to prevent heat stroke danger? Be smart and proactive!

1. When the temperature is high, don’t let your dog linger on hot surfaces like asphalt and cement. Being so close to the ground can heat their body quickly and is also an invitation to burns on sensitive paw pads. Keep walks to a minimum.

2. Giving your dog a lightweight summer haircut can help prevent overheating, but never shave to the skin, the dog needs one-inch of protection to avoid getting sunburned.

3. Provide access to fresh water at all times. Make certain an outside dog has access to shade and plenty of cool water.

4. Restrict exercise when temperatures soar, and do not muzzle the dog because it inhibits their ability to pant.

5. Many dogs enjoy a swim, splashing in a wading pool, or a run through a sprinkler in warmer weather can help bring body temperatures down.

6. Never leave your pet in a parked car, not even if you park in the shade or plan to be gone for only a few minutes. The temperature inside of a car can reach oven-like temperatures in just minutes, often in excess of 140 degrees. That quick errand can turn into a disaster and could be fatal for your pet.

Grooming Shih Tzu With its long silky hair and undercoat it requires daily brushing to keep the hair from becoming tangled and knotted. Shih Tzu's fur is fast growing. This means the dog requires regular grooming including clipping. This should be taken into consideration when purchasing a Shih Tzu because it can be costly.
