When a female crayfish is carrying eggs, it's referred to as being "berried."
The eggs are usually attached to the swimmerets, small appendages on the underside of the abdomen.
The female protects and cares for the eggs during the incubation period, which can last several weeks.
Once the eggs hatch, the mother continues to carry the tiny crayfish (juveniles) for a short time before they become independent
