Thru the efforts of Mayor "Lem" Lemuel Meyrick Mananggit Acosta the City Veterinary Office offers FREE CAT CASTRATION on MAY 31, 2024, 9:00 am onwards, at the City Veterinary Office. Registration starts on May 13 until slots are taken. Cats must be 6 months old and above, with descended testicles, and be healthy. Only 3 pets are allowed per owner/household. This is exclusive for Puspins (Pusang Pinoy) only!

Announcement!!!

We would like to inform the public that starting September 2023, Dra. Windy will only be available at Misamis Occidental on the 2nd and 4th week of the month. The following days will be her scheduled visit at the following clinics:

Oroquieta branch (OWNMVC)- every Tue, Thu, Sat (8am to 5pm)

Fetch Plaridel- every Mon, Wed, Fri (9am to 4pm)

We know that this change will be unfavorable to some clients but we ask for your understanding as our resident veterinarian sees the need to spend more time in educating and helping pet owners at Kalilangan, Bukidnon to be more responsible. Rest assured that despite this change, we still strive to give quality veterinary services to your fur babies.

M was brought to the clinic after his owners noticed sudden changes in his behavior and lack of appetite for two days.

During his history and physical examination, it was discovered that his last rabies vaccination was three years ago. Despite the fact that he is a caged dog, he is still exposed to other dogs that are free roaming in their compound. He was showing signs of air-biting, hypersalivation, brick-red mucous membranes, and ataxia (an uncoordinated gait or movement).

With a thorough history combined with the clinical signs he was manifesting, there was a high likelihood that it could be rabies.

After a lengthy discussion with the owner about how there is no cure for rabies, it was decided to do euthanasia. Although the history and all the clinical signs he was exhibiting pointed towards rabies, we still needed to send a sample to a laboratory that is equipped to handle rabies cases to confirm

Unfortunately, after 24 hours, the results came out that he was positive for rabies. It was recommended that all family members who were in contact with the dog be vaccinated against rabies.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system of all mammals, including humans. It is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through a bite.

Symptoms of rabies are

* Behavioral changes
* extreme aggresion to depression or coma
* sudden loss of appetite
* nervousness
* irritability
* hyperexcitability
* weakness or paralysis of the legs
* difficulty in breathing
* hypersalivation

Once the animal is already showing signs of rabies, there's no known effective treatment, which will eventually cause death. However, rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination, prompt treatment after exposure, and responsible pet ownership.

Getting our pet dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies is extremely important. Vaccinating against rabies helps to protect not only our pets but also ourselves and our communities from the spread of this dangerous disease.
