🩺 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱-𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗣𝘆𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮 🩺

A 6-year-old female dog named XC was brought to our clinic after showing symptoms of vomiting and a complete loss of appetite. After conducting an ultrasound, we confirmed a diagnosis of closed-type pyometra — a severe uterine infection where the cervix remains closed, trapping infection inside.

Unlike open-type pyometra, this form can go unnoticed until symptoms become severe, as there is no visible discharge to alert pet owners.

Our team performed an ovariohysterectomy or spaying to remove the infected uterus to prevent further complications. We are pleased to share that XC responded well to the procedure and is now on the path to recovery.

Bonnie was brought to Beast Friend Clinic showing these symptoms: vomiting, excessive salivation, seizures, and lethargy – all of which likely point to toad poisoning.

𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

According to the MSD Vet Manual, toad poisoning or toxicosis can occur when dogs or sometimes cats bite or ingest toads, exposing them to toxic secretions. Severity can vary significantly based on the type of toad and the extent of contact. In some instances, it could lead to serious health risks such as heart irregularities, kidney damage, respiratory issues, and even long-term neurological problems.

𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻

To help Bonnie recover from toxicosis, our team immediately administered anti-inflammatory medication to reduce swelling and discomfort, anti-spasmodic and anti-seizure medications to control neurological symptoms, and sodium I.V. fluids to manage dehydration and help flush out toxins.

With this prompt intervention, Bonnie is now on the path to recovery.

It’s important for pet owners to keep their homes and yards safe, especially during the rainy season when toads are more common. Here are some practical tips:

✅ Limit nighttime outdoor access as toads are more active after dark.
✅ Supervise outdoor play, especially near water sources or after rain.
✅ Keep a pet-safe environment by clearing areas in the yard where toads frequent.

Mikey, a 1-year-old female cat, was brought to our clinic with concerning symptoms: unusual discharge and a noticeably enlarged abdomen. An ultrasound confirmed that she had open-type pyometra, a type of pyometra where the cervix remains open, allowing some of the infection to drain from the uterus.

Our team performed an ovariohysterectomy or spaying, surgically removing the infected uterus to resolve the infection and prevent future recurrences. We are pleased to share that Mikey is now recovering well.

This case underscores the critical role of spaying or "laygit" in preventing pyometra and other reproductive system disorders in female cats. It is a minimally invasive procedure with significant health benefits for your feline companion.

A 2-year-old male cat named Wh**ey was brought to our clinic with a severe laceration on his abdomen and thigh. Thankfully, his injury narrowly missed major organs and tissues — a close call, to say the least.

Our team carefully stitched the lacerated skin to promote proper healing, and we're pleased to share that he is now well on his way to a full recovery.

While the exact cause of this cat's accident is unknown, this case reminds us of the importance of a safe, cat-friendly home. Here are a few simple ways to help prevent similar incidents:

✅ Keep sharp objects such as knives and scissors, and other tools safely stored.
✅ Cover any sharp furniture edges or exposed wires that your cat might encounter.

Adoi, a 9-month-old Great Dane, was brought to our clinic with symptoms typical of cherry eye: thick eye discharge and a red, swollen lump in the inner corner of the eyelid.

To correct this, we performed a procedure to restore the gland to its proper position, preventing further irritation and preserving Adoi’s eye health. This great doggo is now recovering well and on track for a full recovery.

While cherry eye isn’t entirely preventable, prompt treatment can reduce its long-term complications. If your pet shows signs of cherry eye, such as a red or swollen bump in the inner eyelid, immediately visit your vet to discuss treatment options.
