Sarcoptes scabiei is a highly contagious mite. Signs includes: severe itching and hair loss, yellow crusts, skin rash, papules, secondary bacterial infections, thickening and darkening of skin. Sarcoptic mange easily spreads by direct contact between animals, indirect contact through infested bedding can also occur. It is a zoonotic disease (animals- human transmission).
