Sharing for awareness to fellow pet parents this study which Dr. Karen Becker has published. Many are not aware that over the course of the pandemic the Philippines’ market has been flooded with imported products of all sorts including pet treats in various forms, biscuits, freeze-dried products as well as jerkies branded under various labels. This is what you call private labeling. Where some companies may, buy from foreign manufacturers or importers, repackage them and sell them as their own- a legal practice in the local market.

Why do we know this? It is because we too have looked into this option and were offered great deals many times in the past and in the present. It is one of our co-founder who stood firm against this highly tempting and profitable option.

China products are very well and beautifully made nowadays. Quite frankly, it’s very hard to tell now. There are some China products too which are good, but what’s difficult is telling which is which. This is why it is important to be able to stay in touch with your treat producers. It’s not only important how the treats are made, but also where the ingredients are sourced. There are no governing bodies protecting our local market from false marketing claims as of yet. So it is important that we are always well aware.

A new veterinary study published in the journal of Tierärztliche Praxis found that dogs are still developing a kidney disorder called Fanconi-like syndrome when fed pet jerky treats.

Fanconi is a disorder of kidney function that results in excess excretion of glucose, electrolytes and amino acids in urine. Signs of the illness included decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia and polyuria.

This new study isn't actually new news to veterinarians, in 2007, veterinarians became aware of Fanconi-like signs in multiple other dog breeds without a recognized genetic predisposition, and alerted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, prompting an investigation. The chief suspect then was found to be commercial jerky treats.

As of today, the FDA has received approximately 5,200 complaints of illnesses associated with consumption of chicken🍗, duck🦆, or sweet potato🍠 jerky treats. The reports involve more than 6,200 dogs, 26 cats, three people, and include more than 1,140 canine deaths." - Rodney Habib

“Kyumi loves your chicken jerky so much that she can't end her day without it. Every night she would cry and ask for treats then gets too excited when I shake the pouch. She can normally eat 3 pieces of it a day but at certain times she could finish 6 pieces cos she doesn't take no for an answer. I was wondering if that's too much?? She won't stop barking at me😂 She also likes your freeze-dried chicken & chicken feet variety. I order that too but sometimes they're out of stock on ur shopee account. Mawala na yung ibang treats, wag lang talaga yung chicken jerky nya. She gets sad when we ran out of stock. Super tamlay nya pag late na ako nakaorder and naubusan sya, I swear. That's why, 1 pouch is my safety stock. Once there's only 1 left I'll order 2 more again🤣”
