Healthy dogs have healthy skin and coat.

Depending on the your pup's hair length, it is ideal to groom them every 4 to 6 weeks. There are signals that your dog needs grooming sooner than six weeks:

-If you notice odors emanating from your pet or are unable to brush him.
-If you hear his nails clicking on the floor while he walks.

In between, you have to always give him some tender loving care by regularly brushing his hair. Pick up a dog brush with a little serrated edge that sweeps away excess hair while eliminating the layer of dead skin cells on the coat. Although it may not appear to be the most pleasant process, almost every dog enjoys it. It's like receiving a good scratch that they can't obtain on their own!

You may give them fresh veggies and fruits!
Here are some good and healthy foods:
👉 Apples - rich in antioxidants and vitamins A and C (REMEMBER to remove the seeds and core, it's harmful to them)
👉Bananas - High in fiber and contains potassium.
👉Blueberries - also rich in antioxidants
👉Cantaloupe, Carrots, and Pumpkin - these are rich in beta carotene, fiber, folate, vitamins A, B6, and C
👉Cooked sweet potatoes - high in beta carotene plus vitamins B6 and C
👉Watermelon - helps keep your dogs hydrated.
👉Brocolli - with Vitamins A, B6, and potassium.

Skin problems are common reasons dogs end up at the vet clinic.

Just like their "hoomans", they can be uncomfortable from itching. This itching may be caused by external parasites like fleas, infections, or allergies.

You may prevent it by:
*Regular use of parasite control.
*Feed good quality food.
*Avoid contact with strong detergents.
*You may also use medicated shampoos or soaps to prevent itching.

There are natural remedies for mild itching that you can find in your kitchen, like baking soda paste. BUT, if your dog becomes restless, and develops frequent itching and licking, and/or loss of appetite, go to your veterinarian for immediate medications.

You can teach your dogs not to beg for food while you are eating.

1. Be STRICT. Never give handouts, or let anybody give handouts, or be underfoot while you eat. Let them be in their own space.
2. Limit Space. You may give them a good chew toy, or other good treat to occupy them while you eat.
3. Avoid giving them table food. Even if they can eat some human foods, you have to feed them in their own bowl.

Training them is like disciplining a kid...after all, they are our fur babies!

To SHAVE or NOT to Shave?

That is the question. We humans tend to cut our hair short during summer because of intense heat. But for our fur babies, we have to think first if this is right for them.

The coats of these fur babies composed of two. These are the undercoat and outer coat. Both provides protection.

The undercoat acts more as insulation. It keeps dogs warm during the colder season and cooler on hot weather.

The outer coat on the other hand is to protect from sunrays and dirt.

So if you think of shaving your dogs, be aware of the functions of their coats first. A summer cut can help them cool. We accept walk-ins and scheduled grooming services. Message us and let us help them keep cool this summer.

Sa sobrang init, na para bang ang buong Pilipinas ay malaking oven, always monitor yourself and your fur babies. Look for the signs of dehydration and heatstroke in dogs like:

❗️Rapid breathing and panting
❗️Excess salvation and thickned saliva.
❗️Fatigue or depression.
❗️Muscle tremors.

Keep your dogs hydrated! Offer cool clean water and a cool environment.

They are HOT!

What are the dog breeds that do best in hot weather?

According to "rover.com", kadalasan, ang mga dog breeds with thin and short coats tulad ng Chihuahuas at Beagles do best in hot weather. And of course, those dog breeds that originated from hot climates. (pasado ang Aspin) 😉

Long-nosed breeds, like Greyhounds, also do well in hot weather. Why? Kasi their long noses cool the air, their big lungs and hearts distribute oxygen through their bodies.

While the short nose breeds tend to have a harder time regulating their body temperatures. Bulldogs, pugs, Boston terrier are a few examples. Special attention should also be given to those giant breed dogs, elderly dogs, obese, or diabetic fur babies.

How are you coping with the hot weather? How's your fur babies deal with it.

Here are 5 simple reminders to help them keep cool within the day:
1. Bigyan mo sila ang ice pack to lay on (or pwede ring wet towel).
2. Lagyan ng ice cubes ang kanilang water dish.
3. When you are out, make sure to stay in a shaded cool place.
4. Do not forget to bring water always if you're going out.
5. If you want to walk with your dogs outside, lakad kayo early in the morning or late in the afternoon for cooler grounds.

And for you fur parents - of course do not forget to hydrate too! Keep your cool kahit hindi cool ang weather.

Scraping identifies whether mites are present in your dog's skin.

There are 2 types of mange:
1️⃣Demodetic Mange - Typically affects dogs but is not contagious and easily treatable. When your dog's immune system is weak, these mites may cause follicle root itching and hair loss.

2️⃣Sarcoptic Mange - May cause extreme itching because these mites set under the skin. It is treatable and contagious. It is transmissible to other dogs and even to humans. (ref:hillspet)

Here are some signs that your dogs could be suffering from mange:
❗️Redness, rash, and itching.
❗️Hair loss.
❗️Sores and lesions.
❗️Scabby or scaly skin.

If you suspect that your dog might have mange, go to your Vet 🩺 consult and ask for proper medication. Proper hygiene and quarantine are also encouraged while treating the mange to avoid further contact to other pets and humans for possible transmission.
