The wild Green Imbellis
with red and black ventrals.

This is the original color of Imbellis, any color variation you see from this betta type would fall in the hybrid category such as yellow, red, blue, grey and shades of green. Any commercial names from breeders and new claimed breeding line that does not have the original characteristic, colors that shown in this picture is a hybrid betta.

HOW WOULD YOU KNOW IF ITS HYBRID OR NOT?
ANSWER: hybrids are bigger than the original, Imbellis are short, small and short tempered betta.

Researchers examine the evolutionary relationship and origins among ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž strains using association-mapping to identify the genetic basis of several different traits developed in ornamental ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž fish, such as the Dumbo Ear ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž and Giant ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž. The discussion looks at how s*x determination, fin morphology, colouration, body size, aggressiveness, and other behaviours have been altered and fixed in the genome of modern ornamental ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž fish through selective breeding.

The ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž fish displays a remarkable variety of phenotypes selected during domestication. However, the genetic basis underlying these traits remains largely unexplored.

Here, we report a high-quality genome assembly and resequencing of 727 individuals representing diverse morphotypes of the ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž fish. We show that current breeds have a complex domestication history with extensive introgression with wild species. Using a genome-wide association study, we identify the genetic basis of multiple traits, including coloration patterns, the โ€œDumboโ€ phenotype with pectoral fin outgrowth, extraordinary enlargement of body size that we map to a major locus on chromosome 8, the s*x determination locus that we map to dmrt1, and the long-fin phenotype that maps to the locus containing kcnj15.

We also identify a polygenic signal related to aggression, involving multiple neural system-related genes such as esyt2, apbb2, and pank2. Our study provides a resource for developing the ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘Ž fish as a genetic model for morphological and behavioral research in vertebrates.

This is a hybrid betta wild type and fall to the category of HYBRID BETTA in a competition on the majority of Betta Events in Asia,Europe and America.

also Alien Wild type and Smaragdina Copper will be on that same category.

somehow here in the Philippines this types and color variations were considered under the Wild Original Category, though if you want to compete on a high level and big Events Internationally, we suggest that you stick and practiced the IBC rules so that you avoid mistakes in the future.

heres the link for the International Betta Congress for your reference.

๐ŸงInsectivore?

What do Betta fish eat in the wild?

In nature, Betta fish are insectivores that, given the opportunity, would also consume small invertebrates such as white freshwater worms. The digestive tract of this carnivorous fish has evolved to process meat and fiber from the chitin exoskeletons of insects. For this reason, the best type of food for a Betta would be tiny insects and crustaceans that are high on protein and fiber. Here are examples of what a Betta fish may eat in the wild:

-Cladocera water fleas such as
Daphnia
-Artemia Brine shrimp
-Zooplanktonic Rotifers and crustacean -larvae
-Mosquito larvae
-Deer fly larvae
-Rice seed midge larvae
-Copepods
-Larvae of Chironomid midges known as -Bloodworms

GIANT BETTA : A WILD GENES

The giant betta (Betta anabantoides) is a type of freshwater ray-finned fish in the Macropodusinae subfamily, part of the gourami family. It is native to southern Kalimantan, the Borneo region of Indonesia. It is present in several freshwater habitats and is a paternal mouth-broader.

Giant bettas are well deserving of their name to their size. The appearance of the giant betta was the result of hard work and cautious, selective breeding. In 1999, Team giant created the first giant plakat through plakat betta.

The target being bettas which reach at least 3 inches in length. But now there are evidence that they can grow to 5 to 7 inches long.

They have also given rise to considerable controversy in the hobby. Betta enthusiasts are some who are divide as to whether or not they believe that betta giantism is caused by a single gene.

GIANT BETTA
Simply the result of careful selective breeding for increased size.

The reality may well be a mixture of the two at the end of the day. We know for a fact that significant betas can be breed simply by selecting the largest fish to breed over successive generations.

Nevertheless, experiments conducted by Dr Gene Lucas when giant bettas first appeared in the hobby strongly suggested that a partially dominant gene could generate the giant phenotype.

As bettas inheriting one copy of the โ€˜ giant gene โ€˜ grew larger than normal bettas (so-called โ€˜ half-giant betta โ€˜) and bettas carrying two copies of the gene became giants.

What Is A Giant Betta Fish?

The giant betta is the same as regular betta fish, but the body size grows larger than traditional betta fish. They can grow up to 3 โ€“ 6 inches in general. But I have to see giant betta fish that is 7 inches long. Brooders of this fish have used a selective breeding process when creating this marvelous fish.

How Fast Giant Betta Grow?

Giant betta fry is estimated to develop at a much faster rate than normal betta fry, needing much more food to reach their full potential.

As a result, giant-normal size differences are clearly noticeable from just a few weeks old.

Young giants will be adults by 2-3 months old with proper food and conditions. So by 4 months old, they will be the size of your typical 8-month-old show betta.

As long as they are 7-8 months old, giant bettas can reach at least 3 inches long. At about 6 months of age, the differences in body type are evident.

At a year old finally, they stop growing, but until it is around 18 months old, the fish can continue to put on width and weight.

BETTA:FACT/Females.

Females are less aggressive, but they will still fight. They like to establish a hierarchy and claim their own territory. The battles are less violent than when males fight so injuries are less likely.

Usually the aggression is directed at other Bettas, females tend to tolerate other species well.

Plakat
Tail/Fins: shorter, less ornate fins/tail
Color: all colors available
Patterns: all patterns available, this variety has marble and koi
Behavior: EXTREMELY aggressive, they are also notorious for trying to jump out of the aquarium

Plakat Bettas (pronounced pla-COT) are much more similar to the wild form of the Betta splendens. These fish were bred in South East Asia specifically for fighting. So they have much shorter fins and large, strong bodies.

Their bodies are longer than long-finned varieties and their dorsal fins are usually round and about a third of the size of a veil tail. Plakat tails are fan shaped and about half the size of a veil tail or halfmoon. And their a**l fins only extend an inch or so from their bellies.

But donโ€™t worry, this is still a knockout little fish that can be found in a huge variety of vibrant colors.

They are much faster than long finned varieties and much stronger swimmers.

Plakats are also the most aggressive variety of Betta. Only the most aggressive fighting fish were selected for breeding, so these are some rage filled little fish.

They also have a bad habit of jumping out of their tanks.

FULL STORY
When two betta fish are fighting for dominance, not only do their attacks mirror each other, but the gene expression in their brain cells also starts to align. The new findings, published June 17th in PLOS Genetics by Norihiro Okada of Kitasato University, Japan, may explain how the fish synchronize their fighting behavior.
The fighting fish Betta splendens is famous for its aggression, but opponents typically stop fighting after assessing the other's abilities to avoid any serious injuries. The small freshwater fish is commonly used to study aggression in the lab, and it employs a handful of standard tactics like mouth-locking, bites, strikes and swimming to the surface to gulp air. In the new study, researchers observed that during a fight, two male opponents modify their actions to match the aggressive behavior of the other, leading to tightly synchronized battles. Furthermore, when the researchers a**lyzed the brains of both opponents, they observed that the fish also synchronized which genes were turned on or off in brain cells. The fighting pair had similar changes in gene activity related to learning, memory, synapse function and ion transport across cell membranes. The synchronization was specific to a fighting pair and became stronger after fighting for an hour compared to a 20-minute fight, suggesting that the degree of synchronization was driven by fighting interactions.

The new study takes a neurogenomic approach to the old question of how animals synchronize their behavior. Similar mirrored behaviors also occur during mating, foraging and cooperative hunting, and these behaviors may also trigger synchronized brain changes in the pairs of animals. "One of my future plans is to elucidate what happens in the male-female interaction of fish on the molecular level," said author Norihiro Okada.

The findings suggest that even though the betta fish are fighting each other, sometimes to the death, their brains may be cooperating at the molecular level.

PH WILD : Philippines

The Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens), commonly known as the betta,is a freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the Philippines,we dont have Betta's on the wild,it is Introduced to us by the fast growing Betta Cummunity as a Hobby & Betta Fighting.

Somehow in August,2021 a group of men from Davao del sur Philippines uploaded a video on youtube & Claimed they've catched a specie of what they called wild betta on a small water basin on the wild where water stock from rain & nearby connected river.

They call it "PH WILD", from the video they explained that when a big storm comes, the fish from local hobbiest & keepers were washed away to this water basin including goldfish & Carps along with the Betta's ,however they didnt explained further more details of what kind of Betta it is.
