Are we giving pets too many vaccines and too often? 🐱💉🐶
Immunizing your pet is incredibly important, but ANNUAL revaccination often provides no additional benefit and may increase the risk for adverse reactions, according to top pet immunologist Dr. Ronald Schultz. 👨🏼🔬
There are 12 different vaccines potentially being offered to your dog (9 for cats), however beyond the four “core” dog vaccines (rabies, distemper, adenovirus, and parvo), your pet may not need any of the others.🤔 These “non-core” vaccines should only be given depending on your dog’s lifestyle or geographic area where you live🌎, and in some cases these vaccines may not even prevent an infection.
Every year, many pets are still being boosted for shots they may not, in fact, even need; it’s impossible to “boost” an already-protected immune system.
This week in the Inside Scoop, immunologist and UW-Madison vet school titer expert Dr. Laurie Larson will be joining us to take your questions and discuss pet vaccinations and titers.
Some of the questions we’ll be discussing include:
🔥 what’s the difference between being vaccinated and immunized?
🔥 How long do your pet’s shots really last
🔥 Vaccines vs titers - what and when
🔥Where to get titers done (and cheaply) if your vet doesn’t offer them
Join us this Sunday at 12pm ET for this important discussion and we’ll be taking your questions Live! 🙌
