Almond, a 8-year-old Shih tzu was brought to the clinic with severe trauma to the right eye caused by a dog fight.

Almond’s left eye was intact but cannot perceive light however his right eye was severely damaged, the optic nerve was cut and the globe of the eye was pushed outside the socket because of these assessments and after a series of laboratory tests, the vet opted to recommend eye enucleation.

Eye Enucleation is the surgical removal of the globe. It is most often carried out in blind, painful eyes which are unresponsive to treatment. In appropriate cases, enucleation offers a humane alternative to constant pain, the threat of neoplasia metastases, or euthanasia of an otherwise healthy animal.

Today, Almond’s healing journey continues, unfortunately he is totally blind in both eyes. But with the help of our team and his responsible and loving owners we still hope to give Almond the best quality of life he deserves.

Kaisper, a 3-year-old, male American Bully was brought to our clinic for a check up regarding its current skin condition. The owner observed that Kaisper was always itching and has a wound on the right side of his face.

Upon checking, the wound has pus, scabs and a foul smell. Kaisper had also a history of allergic reaction to food mainly on poultry and had ticks all over. With that, pyoderma due to allergic reaction and external parasites is ruled.

Superficial pyoderma is a bacterial infection confined to the upper layers of the skin and hair follicle. The infection is usually secondary to local trauma, keratinization disorders, parasitic infestation, hormonal factors, or allergies.

Most cases of pyoderma are caused by bacterial infections. Most of these are superficial and secondary to a variety of other conditions, such as allergies or parasites. Warm, moist areas on the skin, such as lip folds, facial folds, armpits, feet, and neck folds, often have higher bacterial counts than other areas and are at an increased risk for infection.

If your pets experience the same kind of symptoms, do not hesitate to bring your pets to our clinic for a consultation and to prevent this kind of situation.

Always remember that prevention is better than cure.
