Sadly, one of our Bayukos who we had placed in isolation some 2 weeks ago did not show any hopeful signs of recovery, despite the extra care given.

We decided not to prolong the inevitable and took the most humane approach which in our opinion was to lower its core temperature and induce a cold, permanent sleep.

We take comfort in the fact that we had given him/her the best care and living conditions in the 2 years he/she had spent with us.

Sadly, our African Giant Land Snail project was not as successful as our Bayuko endeavor. This is the sole remaining juvenile, farm bred Achatina Fulica. We started with close to 500 hatchlings a year ago and now are down to one.

The species has proved less hardy in captivity as compared to Ryssota Otaheitana (Bayuko).
