The Philippine College of Canine Practitioners (PCCP) holds the Oathtaking of its officers for 2025 at the Joy Nostalg Hotel and Suites, Ortigas, 29 January 2025.

PVMA President Dr. Harris Constantino and Dr. Tomas Acorda of the Professional Regulatory Board of Veterinary Medicine (PRB-VETMED) administered the oath of the new set of officers and charging of the specialty board of PCCP, respectively.

The ad hoc Technical Working Group (TWG) to craft the Veterinary Antimicrobial Therapeutic Guidelines (VATG) met today with the PVMA Council of Biologics and Therapeutics (PVMA CBT) to finalize the list of antimicrobial drugs that will be used in the guidelines.

The TWG VATG is composed of representatives from the PVMA board, PVMA CBT and the PVMA specialty colleges.

The first leg for 2025 of the PVMA Trainers’ Training on Advanced Surgical Techniques in Spay and Castration for Small Animals is underway.

With 22 trainees from Local Government Units and the private sector in Luzon, Cebu and Mindanao the activity will be from 24 - 26 January 2025 at the PHRDC, Barangay Catagman, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.

This is activity is under the flagship program, the PVMA Rabies Elimination (PRE) Initiative.

The Philippine College of Veterinary Epidemiologists (PCVE) and the Asia Pacific Consortium for Veterinary Epidemiology (APCOVE) have commenced Phase II of their partnership with a series of stakeholder consultative meetings in the Philippines held from 21 - 23 January 2025 at the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).

APCOVE representatives with the PCVE met with officials and technical staff of government agencies, partner intergovernmental organizations and academic institutions to discuss implementation of the four major components of the APCOVE Program: Applied field epidemiology training, Intermediate field epidemiology training, One Health training, and Epidemiology teacher and mentorship training.

APCOVE Phase II: Advancing Veterinary Epidemiology and One Health Capacity in the Asia-Pacific is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the University of Sydney and other institutions in Australia and New Zealand and will be implemented from 2024 to 2028, with PCVE serving as the country partner for the Philippines.

PVMA launches Advancing Livestock Enterprise and Resource Training Program for Veterinarians (Vet ALERT)

Vet ALERT was conceptualized based on the results of a survey by PVMA Director and Vet ALERT Project Head Dr. Virginia Venturina on priority capacity enhancement areas for LGU veterinarians.

The said survey identified disease diagnosis and disease investigation and surveillance as the priority areas of the LGU veterinary services for capacity enhancement.

This pilot activity, held in Malolos, Bulacan in coordination with PVMA Central Luzon Chapter, focuses on enhancing skills of local government unit veterinarians in disease diagnosis through field collection, handling, packaging, storage of field samples and necropsy of poultry, swine and ruminants.

The Philippine College of Veterinary Feed Practice (PCVFP) held the Oathtaking of its officers for 2025 at Max’s Restaurant, Quezon City Memorial Circle on 8 January 2025.

PCVFP President Dr. Basilisa Reas turned over leadership of the college to Dr. Sharon Lorene Ga-Castro who pledged to uphold the PCVFP mandate on food safety and security, and One Health through responsible and ethical veterinary feed practice.

PVMA President Dr. Harris Constantino graced the occasion and administered the oaths of the new set of PCVFP officers, Specialty Board and the Board of Trustees.
