TW: Extreme 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘹 infestation 🤢

This photo from a scrape sample features an abhorrent amount of 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘹, a genus of tiny mites that live in or near hair follicles of mammals, and is also known as a cause of 'galis' in animals. These mites are basically part of an animal's normal skin flora but multiplies to enormous proportions in times of stress and/or weakening of immune system. When left untreated, this can cause discomfort and hair loss to some degree.

For dogs 🐶, several of the most common vaccines are typically given together in a single shot that’s known as the DHPP vaccine, 5-in-1 vaccine for dogs, or 5-way puppy shot.

Tammy is probably so proud of her new litter of pups! 🥰🐶 Even though their mother does a fantastic job of caring for her litter (feeding, cleaning, keeping them warm etc.) it’s still important for her and her puppies to see the vet within 48 hours of giving birth. Many vets will do a home visit as it will be less stressful for the puppies and their mum. Seeing the vet is not only an important part of their health care, but it can help them get used to being handled and cared for by a vet, which could help with how they react to them in the future.
