🐹PET HAMSTER CARE TIPS FOR BEGINNERS 🐹
1️⃣ SET UP THE RIGHT HAMSTER CAGE
Choose a cage that is large enough for your hamster, is escape-proof, and is simple to clean.
2️⃣ PROVIDE FOOD DAILY FOR HAMSTERS
Feed the hamster on a daily basis. Pelletized food, rather than muesli or seed mix, is required for hamsters to avoid selective feeding and to guarantee that your hamster receives all of the nutrients it requires.
✖️AVOID✖️
Onions, garlic, chives, leeks, lettuce, raw potatoes, and oranges in favor of broccoli, parsley, apple, pear, carrot, and turnips.
3️⃣ PROVIDE LOTS OF TOYS AND EXERCISE FOR YOUR HAMSTER
Hamsters enjoy running and require exercise, so invest in the largest, highest-quality exercise wheel available. It should have a firm running surface with no cross supports.
4️⃣ PROVIDE CLEAN WATER DAILY FOR HAMSTERS
Keep water handy and accessible at all times, your hamster will not drink much water, but when it does become thirsty, it is critical that water be accessible.
5️⃣ CLEAN AND WASH THE HAMSTER'S HABITAT REGULARLY
There is a good balance between keeping your hamster’s home clean and comfortable and causing unnecessary stress by cleaning it excessively.
👉Take soap and water and clean out the entire habitat once it’s been cleared of bedding, toys, and other items once a week or every other week.
6️⃣ BOND MORE WITH YOUR HAMSTER
You must learn to be patient with your hamster, and you should always regularly be feeding. Be sure to provide plenty of out-of-habitat playing, and soothing chat will all help you bond with your hamster.
7️⃣ RESPECT YOUR HAMSTER'S RESTING/SLEEPING TIME
Hamsters are nocturnal and easily scared if awakened suddenly. Meaning to say, they are active at night rather than during the day.
8️⃣ PROVIDE YOUR HAMSTER WITH CHEW STICKS
Because your hamster’s teeth are continually growing, it will need to grind them down gradually.
9️⃣ GIVE THEM A SAND BATH
Rather than using soap and water to wash away any dirt from your pet’s fur, your hamster will roll around and play in the sand. This removes grease and dirt from their fur.
1️⃣0️⃣ HANDLE YOUR PET WITH CARE
Unlike other small animals, hamsters and gerbils need to be picked up with both hands and cradled in cupped hands. The same goes for putting them down, but use extra caution so they don’t accidentally escape from or slip through your hands. Because these pets are naturally nocturnal, be sensitive to the time of day you are trying to handle your hamster.
