Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that can affect all dogs, but unvaccinated dogs and puppies younger than four months old are the most at risk. Dogs that are ill from canine parvovirus infection are often said to have "parvo." Zeus is a 3 month old Doberman. He was brought to the Collins Animal Clinic last June 13, 2023 and was positive for 'Ehrlichiosis'.

What is Ehrlichiosis?

Ehrlichiosis is a tick-borne disease that affects dogs. It is caused by the bacteria Ehrlichia canis and is transmitted through
the bite of infected ticks, primarily the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus).

Preventing ehrlichiosis in dogs involves using tick control products, regularly checking your dog for ticks after outdoor activities, and avoiding tick-infested areas whenever possible.

TVTs are malignant (cancerous) tumors. Different from other cancers, TVTs can spread between dogs. It is s*xually transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact with the tumor that results in cancer cells being transplanted from dog to dog.

Dogs of any breed, age, or s*x are susceptible, but it is most commonly observed in mixed-breed dogs, dogs that are s*xually ‘intact’ (not spayed or neutered), and stray and free-roaming dogs.
