"Fish tanks not only lower anxiety and stress".

Seniors exposed to an aquarium filled with fish have shown a significant reduction in blood pressure. Watching fish has been shown to calm children who suffer from hyperactivity disorder.

Reef Safe: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gal

Relative Care: Easy

The Spotted Watchman Goby is also known as the Pink and Blue Spotted, Singapore Shrimp, Leptocephalus Prawn, or Pinkspotted Shrimp Goby. The head and body are yellow to tan with pink spots surrounded by smaller blue spots.

It requires a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble, ample swimming room, and a sand bottom for burrowing. It rarely becomes aggressive towards other fish, but it is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. It may try to jump out of the aquarium or other small openings, therefore, a tight-fitting lid is required.

The Spotted Watchman Goby diet should include a variety of mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, table shrimp, and frozen food preparations for carnivores. It should be fed at least twice per day.

Boxer Banded Shrimp/Banded Coral Shrimp

*In the Wild: Indonesia, Sri Lanka
*Length: 3 inches (7.6 cm)
*Reef-Safe? Yes
*Difficulty: Easy
*Temperament: Peaceful
*Tank Size: 20 gallons (76 l)
*Diet: Carnivore
*Lifespan: 2-3 years

Boxer banded shrimp are also known as banded coral shrimp. The striking red and white patterns across their carapaces stand out in reef tanks, making them popular choices with aquarists of all levels.

Another nocturnal member of the saltwater shrimp group, they roam the tank after dark for uneaten food and meaty leftovers. If fish approach, they’ll oblige in cleaning. Unhappily, more aggressive members tend to attack sleeping fish.

Aquarists love banded shrimp for their unparalleled bristle worm hunting skills. These crustaceans make for natural pest control if you’re battling a bristle worm infestation. They track down every last one.

Unfortunately, banded shrimp have ZERO tolerance for one another. You’ll want to keep them on their own.

If you KNOW you have a mated pair, you can keep them together, but don’t go for a group. Banded Shrimp WILL fight to the death.

Reefkeeping is a paradox. We set up an aquarium to display all the wonderful diversity of the tropical oceans, only to be told that we can’t keep the vast majority of species in our tanks. I help out in my LFS on Saturdays and the following two species are probably the two that people ask me for a...

Horned Sea Star
➿ Quick Care Facts ➿
Length: 30cm
Depth: 0-40m
Found: Indo-Pacific
Eats: algae, invertebrates
Family: Sea Stars
Scientific Family: Oreasteridae

Also known as Choc Chip Sea Star, Chocolate Chip Cookie Sea Star, Chocolate Chip Sea Star, Chocolate Chip Star, Common Starfish, Cookie Dough Sea Star, Giant Knobbly Star, Horned Starfish, Knobbly Sea Star, Nodular Sea Star, Starfish.

Found singly or in groups on shallow gravel, sand, seagrass and seaweed beds, over coral and rocky reefs. Large sea star, with five conical, short, thick arms. Colour varies from place to place.
They feed on filamentous algae and invertebrates.
Length - 30cm
Depth - 0-40m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Sea Stars have remarkable regenerative powers, when attacked and damaged by predators they are able to grow new arms. They usually have five arms but have been found with 4 or 6 arms, this may be because more than one arm has been damaged at one time!
Sometimes small parasitic limpets can be found on the underside of arms which can deform the arms.
They possess a cleverly evolved arsenal of hydraulic tube feet connected to an elaborate water-vascular system that encircles the animal's mouth and extends via five radial canals down the centre of each arm.
Their mouth is underneath, but their prey is absorbed outside their mouths by forcing out their digestive organs from their stomach.
Sea Stars are carnivores and feed on almost any food including molluscs, worms, detritus and each other!

The Clown Triggerfish is the first fish people will see when viewing your tank. The colors are dramatic making the Clown Triggerfish very sought-after. The upper half of the body is dark shaded and the bottom half has white spots. There are yellow accents under the eyes, mouth and fins.

The Clown Triggerfish can be very aggressive as they age and will try to bite anything. Juveniles can be kept in a community tank but as they mature they must be moved into a large aggressive tank. Have plenty of live rock in the tank. Keep in aggressive fish only system as adults.

Triggerfish are durable specimens that require large tanks with plenty of live rock. They have sharp teeth and powerful jaws for crushing. Belligerent triggers will attack all invertebrates and most will try to rearrange live rock. Keep in aggressive fish only tank with few exceptions. It is best to add triggerfish of the same size and at the same time to prevent skirmishing.

Feed a variety of meaty foods and vitamin enriched foods such as Ocean Nutrition Formula One Pellets in their diet.
