Success Story, in the Fight Against Cancer

Lets celebrate the journey of Britney, a dog who conquered cancer. In April she was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma. Faced a battle against cancer and the effects of chemotherapy. Today marks a start for her.

Britneys story showcases the bond between our team and her owner, Ma'am Winthel. Despite the challenges posed by metastasis Britney underwent chemotherapy with unwavering support from her team and loved ones. Her recovery serves as a reminder that cancer doesn't have to be the end; it can be a beginning for our beloved pets.

Congratulations to Britney and her devoted owner, on this milestone.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the amazing support team of doctors (clinic vets, vet pathologists from external lab and human pathologist), assistants, and vet nurses at our clinic. Happy International Cat Day! 🐾

Today, we're celebrating some of our incredible cat patients with truly unique stories and features.

**Meet Salty**, the oldest cat in our clinic, at an astonishing 20 years young! Despite facing kidney challenges, Salty has made a remarkable recovery after just a week of confinement. She’s still going strong, eating well, and staying healthy on her maintenance meds.

**Then there’s Wichi**, a young cat from Lourdes, San Fernando, who holds the title of our clinic’s ONLY B-Type blood patient since we opened. This rare blood type makes Wichi a one-of-a-kind feline!

**Next up is Cauli**, the unicorn of cats—a male calico from Mabalacat. Male calicos are exceptionally rare, occurring in just one in 3,000 male cat births, making Cauli a truly extraordinary companion.

Finally, meet **Girlie**, a 17-year-old female cat who was born in the USA and brought to the Philippines. Girlie is currently managing Chronic Kidney Disease, an age-related condition, and has lived her entire life with just one kidney—a rare and remarkable trait.

Cats are truly magical creatures, and today is all about celebrating their lives and the joy they bring. Ciao! Our patient Bonnie is needing your help. He was diagnosed with blood infection with multiple organ issues and now severely anemic. He is currently confined in our clinic and we are looking for possible blood donors to help her.

Donor should be
- Healthy and 1 year and above
- Minimum of 20 kg
- No previous history of receiving blood transfusion or donating blood
- No previous history of pregnancy
- Complete and updated vaccination and deworming
- Negative for blood parasite and heart worm
- Good temperament
- Hematocrit >40%

*Blood test, blood parasite test and heart worm test will be done to determine if the dog is fit as donor all at the expense of the recipient's owner)

Go the Distance: Toby Carlos' Journey from Bataan for Corona Treatment

Over the past three months, Toby has faced tremendous challenges, including three surgeries and a biopsy before starting his viral treatment. Have you ever experienced the heartache of having your pet confined to a hospital? 🥹

Our outpatient clinic has treated many beloved pets suffering from severe blood parasite infections and viral infections. We've seen many pets in critical condition make remarkable recoveries, and their stories are a testament to the power of love and determination.

Mona, an English bulldog from Bulacan with multiple organ issues. She spent a week in an oxygen cage and the ICU. Thanks to intensive care, she is now back home, enjoying her life again.

Then there's Pepper, a tiny puppy battling canine viral enteritis. Despite experiencing severe bloody diarrhea, her parents never gave up on her. With electrolyte management and manual feeding, Pepper pulled through. Love and hope can indeed make a difference.

Kal, a dog who lost a large amount of blood in just 24 hours due to vomiting and gum bleeding, also found his way back to health. He underwent a life-saving blood transfusion and was home within a week.

And Billy, an American bully, almost lost his life the same day he lost his buddy to an unknown cause. He arrived pale and weak, needing an immediate 1400mL blood transfusion. Thanks to our reserve and an additional 450mL from another dog, Billy recovered and went home after a week.

𝘼 𝘽𝒐𝙣𝒆 𝒂𝙣𝒅 𝑺𝙠𝒊𝙣 𝘾𝒂𝙣𝒄𝙚𝒓 𝑱𝙤𝒖𝙧𝒏𝙚𝒚 𝒐𝙛 𝙏𝒘𝙤 𝙊𝒍𝙙 𝙋𝒂𝙩𝒊𝙚𝒏𝙩𝒔

𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫, a 10-year-old dog with early-stage heart problems and fast-growing bone cancer, faced a difficult battle. After discussions with his owner and our vets, we decided to proceed with surgical intervention despite the risks. The surgery was a success, and today Barker is a happy tripod dog, much better off than he was with a cancerous bone in his leg.

𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐲, a 6-year-old rescued cat, came to us with an unhealing wound on his ear. A biopsy confirmed it was malignant squamous cell carcinoma. After careful discussions, we opted for surgery to remove the affected part of his ear and monitor for any further spread of malignancy. Today, Whiskey is healed and happily responding to sounds.

These pet patients are now free from cancer, but we will continue to monitor them for any further developments.

Some cancers don’t require chemotherapy; sometimes, all it takes is proper decision-making and a brave heart for surgical intervention.

Today, these beloved pets finally went home after a week of enduring pain and disease. Their suffering has come to an end, and they are now in a place they call home, where they can find peace and comfort. Thank you for entrusting their healing journey to us.

Rambo a senior Beagle had been suffering from loose, bloody stools. He underwent a blood transfusion of 900mL. His stools had been bloody since last week, and while we managed to treat the blood loss and infection over the week, the challenge of watery stools kept us working through the night. Thankfully, our efforts paid off. Thank you to everyone who help us find blood donors.

Case: Estrogen Toxicity Due to Sertoli Cell Tumor Resulting in Myeloblastic Leukemia and Anemia (Pancytopenia)

Methods: Radiograph, AFAST, Blood Smear, Fine Needle Biopsy, Histopath ongoing

Treatment Approach

Given the severity of the condition, an immediate and comprehensive treatment plan was necessary:

1. Abdominal Orchiectomy: Surgical removal of the affected testicle was performed to eliminate the primary source of estrogen production and tumor growth.
2. Pre-surgical Blood Transfusion: Due to significant anemia and thrombocytopenia a blood transfusion was administered to stabilize the pet before undergoing surgery.

** Importance of Neutering Male Pets

This case highlights a critical preventive measure in pet healthcare. Neutering male pets can significantly reduce the risk of developing Sertoli cell tumors and associated complications. By castrating male pets, owners can help prevent severe health issues and enhance their pets’ quality of life. This proactive step is essential for responsible pet ownership and long-term animal health.

Cancer Doesn't Have an Age

Meet Britney, our youngest cancer-diagnosed patient, a 2-year-old French Bulldog. She came to us with multiple enlarged lymph nodes. Little did her owner know that she had Stage-4 B-cell Lymphoma.

After thorough diagnostics and pre-lab work, Britney began her chemotherapy yesterday.

We often hear owners say, "My pet is old, and chemo is not my choice." Yet, we have 10, 12, and even 13-year-old chemo patients in our clinic whose owners are committed to giving their pets the best life possible.

Age should not be a determining factor in the fight against cancer for your beloved pets.
