Republic Act No. 8485: The Animal Welfare Act of 1998
stated that the purpose of this Act is to protect and promote the welfare of all animals in the Philippines by supervising and regulating the establishment and operations of all facilities utilized for breeding, maintaining, keeping, treating, or training all animals either as objects of trade or as household pets.
Here are some important things to remember according to the law:
a.) Animals must be treated right because it is our responsibility, and if it is proven without any reason by a person that taking care of them is falling into the category of abandonment of animals, it is strictly prohibited, and violators will face imprisonment and/or fines.
b.) Animals must have a shelter and proper care; also, animals are not allowed to be partially part of any religious rituals, but there is an exemption, and leaders are required to cooperate with the Committee on Animal Welfare.
c.) Maltreatment, neglect, and pain and suffering are considered cruelty. Shelters for animals are necessary, but if it is unseemly, improper caging, and the facility is a violation of animal rights
