The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for months has had the advice in place as monkeypox spreads in the U.S.

But it gained new attention after a report from France, published last week in the medical journal Lancet, about an Italian greyhound that caught the virus.

The dog belongs to a couple who said they sleep alongside the animal. The two men were infected with monkeypox after having s*x with other partners and wound up with lesions and other symptoms.

The greyhound later developed lesions and was diagnosed with the virus.

Monkeypox infections have been detected in rodents and other wild animals, which can spread the virus to humans.

But the authors called it the first report of monkeypox infection in a domesticated animal like a dog or cat.

Pets that come in close contact with a symptomatic person should be kept at home and away from other animals and people for 21 days after the most recent contact, the CDC advises. | via Associated Press

- Pale gums due to anemia (decrease in number of red blood cells)
- Anorexia (decreased appetite)
- Depression
- Difficulty breathing
- Weakness
- Fever

If dog is in heat - cannot spay (kind of spay for dog only - OSS or o***y saving spay - best to do research on the advantages of this kind of spay)

Spay after giving birth? 2 mos after giving birth, cannot nurse kittens after op

Min age for op? 6 mos for both F/M D/C

Meds req? Yes - P150 antibiotic cat + P150 pain meds cat , P350 antibiotic dog + P150 pain meds dog (ointment and e collars also available, no e collar for dogs available, just for cats)

Pregnant allowed? Yes but only up to 3 weeks pregnancy (P1500 total op fee). If unsure and not apparent, still allowed BUT still with additional P1500 total operation fee if pregnant.

Cbc/bloodtest? No cbc/bloodtest available so considered waived BUT you can ask a nearby vet for cbc instead

Cages req? YES for cats. Make sure they are safe and escape-proof. For dogs - leash and collar needed

Pyometra case? Ok but total op price P3500 for cat and P5k for dog, if XXL 6k

Inguinal te**es? Ok but addtl. 1k.
