Nth Ehrlichiosis patient saved!

Ehrlichiosis is a very common problem among dogs caused by blood parasite Ehrlichia spp. It can be contracted via infected tick (kato) bite. When diagnosed early, it is easily treated but for a long duration treatment. If left unattended, they easily progress to severe deadly condition.

This patient is another victim of Ehrlichia, and saved by blood transfusion and aggressive medical treatment. We would like to introduce another superhero, Ash. So sweet and gentle. Blood collection from him was never tough, so easy without necessitating sedation! Thank you Chef and Mrs Emmie Rose Ouano-Taytayan of Big B Kennel for your kind hearts.

Please give tick and flea preventative regularly to keep your dogs away from this deadly disease. Stay safe and healthy doggos!

A massive bladder stone retrieved!!

Buchokoy was brought in the clinic with a presenting complaint of urinary incontinence and straining when urinating for about a month. X-ray was requested and revealed a radiopaque object(bladder stone) in the urinary bladder.

An operation to remove the stone was then scheduled. Pre-surgical bloodwork was performed. Unfortunately, it showed that his platelet and red cell count was abnormally low, hence, blood parasite testing was performed which came back positive for Ehrlichiosis.

Management of Ehrlichiosis was prioritized and the operation was rescheduled until treatment course is completed.

Two days ago, the operation was finally performed after seeing that the blood values are back to normal. We retrieved a massive stone 2-3x wider than a 5 peso coin (as big as a large size tomato).

Buchokoy was then sent home after the recovery/observation period with prescriptions, advised with diet modification and ways to increase water intake.

Tamsi, a senior dog was presented due to respiratory distress, loss of appetite and refusal to lie down. He is experiencing orthopnea, making him refuse to lie down and relieved only by sitting and standing most of the time. His blood test revealed increased WBC due to neutrophilia. Xray showed abnormal accumulation of fluid inside thoracic cavity possibly pleural effusion, yet to determine if hydro or hemothorax. TFAST revealed abnormally large volume of fluid present in the thoracic cavity. Thoracocentesis as indicated for this case was performed and retrieved almost 700 ml of bloody fluid (hemothorax). Tamsi's respiration has now improved and gained back his appetite. He is suggested to undergo 2D echo as part of investigating the main cause of the problem. Fingers crossed.
