International Homeless Animals Day is celebrated every 3rd Saturday of August. We can be a voice for homeless animals and help mitigate their suffering. By raising awareness, we can help homeless animals find their forever home.
Hereโs Twyla, one of the rescues from , which we were able to nurse back to health. Twyla, who lived her early months roaming the streets, now lives a life free of worries and of danger. She is warm, fed, and loved; has a big canine sister and other family members she has yet to meet.

Why is proper dental care so important for cats and dogs? ๐ฆท๐ชฅ
Did you know that without proper routine dental care, bacteria from your petโs mouth can affect their heart, liver and kidneys? This can decrease the time they get to spend with you, and our pets already donโt get to live as long as we do. Itโs important to have routine dental care performed at home with nightly brushing, and/or a yearly dental cleaning.
Did you know that over 80% of dogs and cats have signs of dental disease by three years of age? Inflammation from gingivitis and fractures or loose teeth are the biggest source of pain in our pets. By the time signs of significant dental disease appear, your pet could be in significant chronic pain. The only effective treatment for dental pain is to treat the underlying dental disease with a dental cleaning and extraction, if necessary.
But why do our pets need to be sedated for dental cleaning? Well for one, pets donโt just open their mouths and say โahhh.โ Most of the tartar build-up that we canโt see under the gum line has to be cleaned off with an ultrasonic scaling device in order to prevent further damage to the tooth, and that canโt be done while the pet is awake.
Having routine yearly exams and blood work performed before a dental cleaning can significantly reduce the risk of anesthesia. This way, your vet can assess if your pet is healthy enough to have dental cleaning performed.

As much as we want to will our patients to live, to fight, to recover from their illness, their frail bodies eventually succumb to their condition. We pray and hope for a miracle with the furparents, but sadly, our pets lives are finite.

We hope that the uproar and rage with Killua's senseless death serve as an eye-opener; that if a beloved, purebred pet experienced such a cruel fate, how much more for the number of stray cats and dogs in our streets.
Cruelty knows no breed. Cruelty does not just entail inflicted trauma or pain. ABANDONMENT and NEGLECT are also forms of cruelty.
As more information comes out about this case, we hope that this drives home the importance of having your pets vaccinated regularly by licensed vets.
The series of events leading to Killua's death could have been prevented. Rabies is a HIGHLY PREVENTABLE disease through PROPER VACCINATION.

๏ธFACT: This is false. Dogs and cats can only get rabies when they are bitten by another rabid animal or when a broken skin is licked by an infected animal.

๏ธFACT: Getting anti-rabies shots for your pets is one way to prevent the spread of the virus. Regardless if you have an indoor or outdoor pet, getting them vaccinated is part of being a responsible pet owner.
โ๏ธMYTH: I canโt get rabies through a scratch.

๏ธFACT: The most common transmission of rabies to humans is through a bite. However, scratches, abrasions and even licks to a broken skin/open wound can also transmit the virus.

Before the month of love ends, we would like to share 2 rescue stories who are in dire need of care and a loving home. Winter was rushed to the clinic, one Friday night, in need of emergency surgery to remove a stillborn kitten stuck in her birth canal. She was hypothermic and appeared to be going into septic shock upon presentation. On top of that, she had a bad case of respiratory tract infection, making her recovery, a steeper climb. Our prayers were answered, and Winter is now fully recovered and it is our hope that she finds a furever home. Trina and Feliz, mama dog and puppy, were living in a quarry before they were rescued. Trinaโs left hindlimb was broken, with the leg bone protruding and dangling; while Feliz, her pup, was thin and flea-infested. Trina is severely anemic, heartworm-positive, but needs hindlimb amputation. We are slowly nursing Trina back to health in preparation for the surgery. Feliz, on the other hand, is gaining weight and has already been given her first dose of vaccine. Winter, Trina and Feliz are rescues by @strayLovePH. Chunky's journey as a blood donor ๐ฉธ Yes! Your dogs can save lives by donating their blood to those in need. Prior to donating, screening will be done to assess if your pet is fit to be a blood donor. Complete blood count, 4-way test and crossmatching are done to check if a dog can donate blood. Most dogs need to be sedated for us to properly and aseptically collect blood. A blood bag is usually filled up in 5-10 minutes.
