🚨 HEATSTROKE WARNING FOR PETS! 🚨

PAGASA has officially announced the start of the dry season!
The rising temperatures can be dangerous for your furry friends! Dogs and cats can suffer from heatstroke, which can be fatal if not treated immediately.

🐶🐱 Signs of Heatstroke:
⚠️ Excessive panting or drooling
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
⚠️ Bright red gums or tongue
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhea
⚠️ Seizures

🔥 How to Prevent Heatstroke:
✅ Always provide fresh water and shade
✅ Avoid walking your pet during peak heat (10 AM - 4 PM)
✅ NEVER leave pets inside a parked car 🚗💨
✅ Use cooling mats or wet towels to keep them cool
✅ Limit outdoor activities and provide proper ventilation indoors

🚑 What to Do in an Emergency:
🔴 Move your pet to a cool place
🔴 Offer cool (not ice-cold) water to drink
🔴 Wet their paws, ears, and belly with cool water
🔴 Use a fan to help lower their body temperature
🔴 Seek IMMEDIATE VETERINARY CARE!

Protect your pets from the scorching heat! 🐾❤️ Stay safe and keep them cool!

Meet Pango! 🐾🫶🏻❤️

He was brought to our clinic due to inappetence and drooling of saliva. Parents usually feed him with table food with dog food. Updated rabies shots last February 2025.

He was sedated to fully examine his mouth and found a long CHICKEN BONE lodged in his throat.
We immediately extracted the bone using forcep and gave him antibiotics and pain reliever to aid in his recovery.

Kudos to his furparents for seeking immediate care!

It’s generally best to avoid feeding bones to dogs, especially cooked bones, as they can splinter and cause serious health issues such as:

✅Choking hazards – Small or brittle bone fragments can get lodged in the throat.
✅Digestive tract injuries – Sharp bone splinters can puncture the esophagus, stomach, or intestines.
✅Obstructions – Large bone pieces can cause blockages that may require surgery.
✅Tooth fractures – Hard bones can break a dog’s teeth, leading to pain and expensive dental treatment.

If you want to give your dog something to chew, safer alternatives like specially designed chew toys, or vet-approved dental chews.

Yesterday, we had a terrible case of heatstroke at 8 AM! Body temp was 42.4 degrees celsius! Normal temperature is between 38.4-39.4 degrees celsius. Patient was recumbent and unresponsive! Luckily, his furdad immediately rushed him to the clinic for immediate medical care.

Here are the symptoms of HEATSTROKE:

Excessive panting (rapid, heavy breathing)
Drooling (thick, sticky saliva)
Red or pale gums
Weakness or collapse
Vomiting or diarrhea (sometimes with blood)
Disorientation or uncoordinated movements
Glassy eyes
Seizures or unconsciousness (in severe cases)

Pet owners should be extra cautious to prevent heatstroke in dogs. Here are some key reminders:

✅ Provide plenty of fresh water at all times.
✅ Avoid walking dogs during peak heat—walk them early in the morning or late in the evening.
✅ Never leave dogs inside parked cars, even for a few minutes.
✅ Ensure shade and ventilation if dogs are outside.
✅ Watch for signs of heat stress (excessive panting, drooling, weakness).

Heatstroke can be fatal, so act fast if you notice symptoms!

If you suspect heatstroke, move the dog to a cool area, offer water (but don’t force it), and apply cool water to their body. Seek veterinary attention immediately!
