A 2-year-old shih tzu named Bentley came into the clinic with anorexia, mild lethargy, and fever. He tested positive (testkit) for Ehrlichia, Babesia, and (slight positive)Anaplasma. These are bacteria that causes diseases in dogs and are transmitted by ticks, thus the name Tick-borne diseases.

When a tick attaches to a dog, it can transmit the infectious organisms through its saliva into the dog’s bloodstream. Ticks must be attached to the dog for at least 24 to 48 hours to transmit an infection. Less commonly, dogs can contract a tick-borne disease by ingesting an infected tick.
Not all dogs with tick-borne diseases experience symptoms. Some dogs with strong immune systems are able to control the infection before symptoms develop. Young dogs, old dogs, and those with weakened immune systems may experience more severe disease.Tick-borne diseases can progress quickly and can become fatal if left untreated.
Year-round tick prevention medications are the number one defense against tick-borne diseases in dogs. (Petmd)

Oral medication was prescribed to Bentley, and he's been improving after days of medication were given.

Wiggle, a 7-month-old Shih Tzu, came into the clinic due to severe vomiting. He's been lethargic for 2 days with diarrhea. He tested positive for canine parvovirus, and he's also unvaccinated against the said virus.

Canine parvovirus (CPV, or commonly referred to as “parvo”) is one of the most serious viruses that dogs can get.It causes severe illness in young and unvaccinated dogs. It primarily affects the body’s rapidly dividing cells, meaning the intestinal tract and bone marrow are the most affected. Heart muscle cells of very young puppies can also be damaged by parvovirus.Although parvovirus is most common in puppies and adolescent dogs, it can also affect adult or senior dogs, especially if they are unvaccinated.

Parvo Symptoms in Dogs
A dog with parvovirus will usually start to show parvo symptoms within three to seven days of infection. Early signs of parvo include:
• Lethargy
• Lack of appetite
• Fever
As the virus progresses, your dog may begin to experience:

• Abdominal pain
• Vomiting
•diarrhea
Parvo in dogs is spread by contact with contaminated feces, but you don’t have to see feces for the virus to be present. It can live on surfaces that have been contaminated.

Recovery from parvovirus in dogs varies case by case. Full recovery may take quite a while depending on the severity of the disease and the damage it has done. Dogs that can recover from infection are often sick for five to 10 days after symptoms begin.(Petmed)

Cookie (a 2-year-old male dog) and Mimi ( a 3-year old male cat) previously had urinary bladder crystals. Both had hematuria and urinary retention due to urethral blockage. Catheterization, diet modification, and oral medication were given to them. They both responded to the said management several days later.

Bladder stones and crystals are solid waste particles that form in a dog or cat’s urine.Waste materials can be concentrated inside of the bladder, resulting in stones or crystals. This is especially common if a cat is dehydrated or eating primarily dry food.Urinary crystals form in a dog’s bladder when the urine becomes supersaturated with minerals and the pH and concentration favors crystallization.
Crystals and stones have the potential to change the flow of urine, and can result in kidney damage or a complete urinary blockage, which can be fatal in cats.
There are several different reasons a cat or dog may develop crystals and stones, including underlying health conditions, breed,,and age.
However, in the vast majority of cases (particularly of the common struvite crystals/stones), a dry food diet plays a large role. (Petmed.com)

Butchoy, a 10-month-old Persian, finally got castrated after his blood profile became normal. Several weeks earlier, his castration was postponed due to a high increase in red blood cells (polycythemia) and platelet counts (thrombocytemia) in the CBC (complete blood count).

This is Meray,a 3-month-old shih tzu. She tested positive for Canine Parvovirus. She's been vomiting for 2 days with diarrhea and anorexia. Her other 4 siblings have already died at home and have not received any medication .Meray and her siblings were not vaccinated against parvo virus.

Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that commonly causes GI disease in young, unvaccinated dogs. Presenting signs include anorexia, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea, which is often hemorrhagic. Diagnosis is typically based on history, physical examination findings, and fecal antigen testing. Treatment is largely supportive on an inpatient or outpatient basis because specific therapies are not available.(merial)

To prevent Parvo in dogs, the best approach is regular vaccination. It is highly contagious and can spread through contact with an infected dog's feces or vomit. Puppies are more vulnerable to the virus, so it's crucial to follow a strict vaccination schedule.(bettervet.com)

FELINE LOWER URINARY TRACT DISEASE (FLUTD)

Cooper, a 1 year and 6 months old Persian, was brought into the clinic due to a decreased appetite to anorexia (no appetite), stranguria (painful, frequent urination of small volume), dysuria (painful urination), and urinary retention(unable to empty all the urine from the bladder).CBC (complete blood count) showed leukocystosis (high wBC). Urinalysis showed acidic, bloody urine with proteinuria. Ultrasound (courtesy of Doc Evan Revita Animal Clinic) showed a distended urinary bladder with uroliths/urine crystals. There's also a blockage in his urethra upon catheterization. Cooper was admitted to the clinic for 3 days and was sent home after his urinary retention was gone. Oral medications were continued at home.

Feline lower urinary tract disease(FLUTD) is a generic category term to describe any disorder affecting the bladder and/or the urethra in cats.Common causes of FLUTD are uroliths(urinary stones/crystals)which can form in the bladder and/or urethra, causing irritation or blockage.Other causes are urinary tract infection(UTI),urethral obstruction, and feline idiopathic cystitis.

This 1-year-old Persian x British Shorthair cat named Cooper got castrated recently.

Neutering(castration) prevents accidental or indiscriminate breeding and reduces the frequency of undesirable sexual behaviors such as mounting and marking. Neutering may also prevent some types of aggressive behavior.
