Ear mites (otodectic mange) are caused by Otodectes cynotis mites. These mites often infest the external ear, causing inflammation of the ear canal. Although ear mange occurs in dogs, it is especially common in cats. Ear mites are usually found deep in the external ear canal, but they are sometimes seen on the body. The infested animal will shake its head and scratch its ear(s). The external ear may droop. The intensity of the itching varies but may be severe. In severe cases, the external ear may be inflamed and produce pus; a torn eardrum is also possible. Cats with ear mites should be treated with a suitable medication in the ears or for the whole body. Your veterinarian will recommend an appropriate treatment plan that includes medication and ear cleaning instructions. Animals that have contact with infested cats should also be treated.

📌Urinary catheter is placed on a male cat to aid for urethral blockage caused by uroliths (urinary stones).
🐾How do urinary stones form?
Minerals that naturally occur in urine can clump together to form tiny crystals. When crystals clump together, they form uroliths (also known as urinary stones or calculi).
🐾Why do cats develop uroliths?
Cats have highly concentrated, acidic urine that predisposes them to form stones of the urinary tract, especially when certain minerals or other substances are abundant or deficient. This may be a result of diet, inflammation or infection, or possibly the pH level of the individual cat’s urine.
Cats can also form small stones that resemble sand or toothpaste. Small stones, crystals, and other components of urine can create "plugs" that can block the urinary tract, especially the urethra.
🐾What are the symptoms of urolithiasis in cats?
At first, cats may frequently try to urinate and produce only a fine stream, a few drops, or nothing. Cats may also have extreme pain and cry out when trying to urinate. Complete obstruction causes toxins to build up within the body in 1 to 2 days, which leads to depression, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), coma, and death within about 3 days.
🐾How do veterinarians diagnose uroliths?
Urinalysis, urine culture, radiography, and ultrasonography may be required to differentiate uroliths from urinary tract infection or neoplasia.
🐾How do veterinarians treat uroliths?
Treating stones, and preventing their return, depends on their type and location.
Treatment involves,
(1) relieving the obstruction (either by pushing the stone back into the bladder with a catheter or by removing it surgically. If the stone is flushed back into the bladder, surgery to remove the stone is usually necessary so that it does not pass into the urethra again),
(2) special diet,
(3) lithotripsy (a procedure that uses sound waves to break apart s

📌EAR MITES (Otodectes cynotis) IN AN 8-WEEK OLD FELINE (cat).
WHAT ARE EARMITES?
-Ear mites are tiny infectious organisms resembling microscopic ticks. The mite can just barely be seen by the naked eye as a small white dot, though, ordinarily it is necessary to look at an ear wax sample under the microscope to see it.
PRESENTING SIGNS SHOWN BY THE PATIENT:
-Patient produces a characteristic dry black ear discharge that resembles coffee grounds.
Because the discharge is so classic in appearance, a diagnosis of ear mite infection was made based on its presence.
But despite its classic appearance, it is important to know that NOT ALL discharges coming from the ear/s and inflammations of the ear/s are caused by ear mites, no matter how it appears to be one.
Most people have heard of ear mites and know they are a common ear parasite of dogs and cats, but that is where most people's knowledge of ear disease ends. In fact, ear discharges and inflamed ears have many potential causes, and assuming the problem is an ear mite infection can lead to weeks of the wrong treatment. So it is best to ALWAYS SEEK ADVICE FROM YOUR TRUSTED VETERINARIAN.
