Meet Kiera, a 7-year old dog who suffered with an open-typed Pyometra for weeks already. She was initially managed conservatively but there were no significant improvement thus surgical removal of the Reproductive tract was the only option left. Kiera underwent Ovariohysterectomy procedure to remove the reproductive tract from the o***y and including the pus-filled uterus. Kiera successfully surpassed the operation and is now ready to go home. Kudos kiera!!

Pyometra is a reproductive disease manifested by a pus-filled or fluid-filled uterus commonly occur shortly after breeding season. There are several factors involved in the development of the disease such as abnormal changes in the uterine lining and possible entry of bacteria to the reproductive tract the time when the tract was open during heat period, and even probably with contaminated mating..

Conservative treatment is always the first choice in these cases but in the event that no significant improvement is observed then surgical procedure is recommended.

‼️Late Night Emergency‼️

This patient was transported all the way from Brgy Kuya, Maramag, Bukidnon for an emergency due to dystocia (Difficulty of Labor). Two pups were still stucked inside while the first 5 pups successfully delivered prior. Zia, the patient dog, is finally done delivering a total of 7 puppies via emergency ceasarean section. Good job, Zia!
