Diagnosis: Ehrlichiosis

Ehrlichia is a bacterial infection carried by ticks. It can be a life threatening disease if left untreated. It attacks the white blood cells of the dog and may have the following symptoms:

1. Low platelet count
2. Anemia
3. Bleeding from nose, gums , skin, or in the urine and f***s.
4. Enlarge spleen and lymph nodes
5. Kidney failure
6. Weight loss
7. Lameness
8. Eye abnormalitis ( discharge, cloudy eye)
9. Fever
10. Lethargy

There is NO VACCINE for blood parasite!

How to prevent:
1. Use veterinary recommended tick prevention
2. Manage any tick infestation in your surroundings
3. Do not bring your dogs to any tick infested areas
4. Groom your dogs especially if they have long furs already so you can find ticks easily.

Diagnosis: Conjunctivitis due to trauma

Miley was brought to the clinic with watery, reddish, swollen right eye. It was accidentaly poked by a finger. Thanks for the prompt action of her pawrent, she is now under medication to prevent. further infection. 🐾🩺💊

These 4 doggos are now officially balls-free! 🐾🥰

For those pawrents who are considering to have their pets castrated, here are the things to consider before surgery:

1. Must be healthy and no health issues.
2. At least 6 months of age, and up to 5 years old only.
3. Must have an UP TO DATE Rabies vaccine
4. Both testicles should be descended.
5. Fasted from 12 midnight for food and water.
6. Drop off from 9 am- 12 noon only.
7. Laboratories at least 3 days before surgery

CATS:
- CBC is required 10 months old up to 2 yrs old
- CBC and Blood chem for greater than 2 yrs old

DOGS:
- CBC is required for below 1 yr old
- CBC and Blood chem for greater than 1 yr old

8. Strictly BY APPOINTMENT only. Call or send us a message.
9. Take home medications and e-collar are NOT included.

Diagnosis: Ehrlichiosis

Maggy and Toby tested positive for Ehrlichia in our diagnostic test kit. Their blood works revealed a significant drop in their platelet count at 16 and 17 respectively. They are also suffering from anemia due to the presence of this blood parasite in their body.

Early detection of the disease is essential to prevent further complications. They are now under our treatment plan for Ehrlichia.

For pet owners, it is important to always protect your pets against ectoparasites especially from the infected ticks which are the vector of this disease.

If your pet has history of tick infestation and shows signs of lethargy, inappetence, fever, vomiting, sometimes diarrhea (with tinge of blood), and nose bleeding, you should seek veterinary help.

With regard to wellness, deworming and vaccination are integral part of our pet's overall health to help prevent diseases and parasites . Deworming in pups and kittens starts as early as 2 weeks of age and vaccination starts at 6 weeks for pups and 8-12wks old for kittens. 🐶🐱

Remember, giving your pets the core vaccines, deworming, and other preventives will save you from much costly treatment. 💉💊🩺

Of course, we want our best furiends to live forever, but as they say, we only have 12 summers with them. Some of us have met dogs that lived much longer than expected like these senior dogs- Let-let, Scrampee, and Chlowie.

Here are some tips on how to make your dog live longer:

1. Feed them a healthy and balanced diet.
2. Maintain a healthy weight.
3. Exercise with them.
4. Good oral hygiene.
5. Regular vet visits for blood works, deworming, vaccination, and other preventives.
6. If sick, you might need to act fast if your dog is acting out of his/her usual self. Do not self medicate.
7. Regular grooming.

Though there are no guarantees that our pets will beat the odds, we can still do all we can to spend as much time with these special fur loves as possible. 🐾🥰

Here's another case of FLUTD with urethral obstruction and cystitis. 😔

Clinical Signs
The most common signs of LUTD include:

-Difficult or painful urination
-Increased frequency of urination
-Crying out while urinating
-Blood in the urine
-Inappropriate urination (that is, outside of the litter box)
-Frequent licking of the ge***al region.

While cats of any age can show LUTS, it is most frequently seen in middle-aged, over-weight cats that get little exercise, use an indoor litter box, have restricted access outdoor environments, and drink less water. Male cats may be at an increased risk, and stressful environmental factors, including living in a multi-cat household and changes in routine, such as a move to a new home, may also increase the risk that a cat will develop LUTS.

Steps to minimize FLUTD

1.Feed small meals on a frequent basis.

2.Manage weight appropriately.

3.For cats with a history of struvite formation, feed diets that are limited in magnesium and that promote acidification of the urine.
Most commercial diets meet these criteria. Avoid supplementing such diets with additional urinary acidifiers, as over-acidification can cause metabolic acidosis, impaired kidney function, and mineral imbalance. Consulting with a veterinarian is recommended when making decisions regarding diet.

4.Provide clean, fresh water at all times.

5.Provide an adequate number of litter boxes (usually one more than the number of cats in the household).

6.Keep litter boxes in quiet, safe areas of
the house.

7.Keep litter boxes clean.

8. Minimize major changes in routine.

This 2 yr old old doggo was brought to the clinic with massive lump on the left side of the body. The owner just requested to have it removed. Further diagnostic tests were recommended to come up with a definitive diagnosis.

After discussing the post operative management, he is now under the care of his pawrents. Praying for speedy recovery, CIELO! See you after a week..🐾🥰
