Urinary Bladder Stones in Pets

Bladder stones (otherwise known as cystic calculi) are a collection of minerals, ranging in size and composition, that develop in a dog's bladder and can cause frequent urinary tract infections, pain, and obstruction of the urinary tract.

Signs and symptoms includes:

1. Discomfort and difficulty urinating
2. Urinating small amounts very frequently
3. Blood in the urine
4. Cloudy or discolored urine
5. Bloated or sensitive stomach
6. Avoidance of exercise
7. Pain in the abdomen around the kidney area
8. Change in energy level
9. Vomiting

It’s important to note that not all of these symptoms may present themselves. Pain may be the only indicator that bladder stones are present, so it can be difficult to diagnose.

Several factors that contribute to the formation of Urinary Bladder Stones:
- Prevalence of a urinary tract infection
- Inflammation of the urinary bladder lining
- High dietary intake of certain minerals and proteins
- Reduced water intake
- Large amount of salts in the urine
- Optimal pH levels in the urine for stone formation
- Breed predispositions

A 13-year-old girl died after being bitten by a rabid dog last February, according to Darlene Cay's exclusive report on 24 Oras Weekend.

“Sabi niya, 'Mama hindi na ako maka-inom, hirap na akong maka-inom ng tubig. Mama, baka may rabies na ako.' Doon sa narinig ko na may rabies. Sabi ko, 'Bakit? Nakagat ka ba ng aso?'” said Jamaica’s mother, Roselyn.

It turned out that Jamaica had been bitten by a dog last February at the Vitas Park in Tondo. At the time, she told her parents that she had been caught on a wire, which had caused her wound.

“Sabi ko bakit ngayon ka lang nag-sabi? Sabi niya, Mama, sorry Mama, sorry sabi niyang ganon. Sabi ko hindi naman ako magaglit sayo kung sinabi mo, dapat naagapan. ‘Ma, mamamatay na ba ako, mamamatay na ba ako?’ Doon ako kinabahan parang gusto ko nang mag-hysterical,” Roselyn said.

According to doctors, it may take a few days, weeks, or months before the symptoms of a person infected with rabies appear. So, if an individual is bitten, licked, or scratched by a dog, it would be best to clean the wound immediately and rush to the nearest health center or hospital.

The injury should not be ignored because rabies is deadly.
