ڈپٹی سپیکر پنجاب اسمبلی ملک ظہیر اقبال چنڑ نے زیرو پوائنٹ اور وی ٹی ایچ ہاسپٹل کا افتتاح کیا اور زیرو پوائنٹ پر پودا لگایا بعد ازاں یونیورسٹی کے مختلف شعبہ جات کا وزٹ کیا اور وہاں کی تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کے بارے میں معلومات حاصل کیں۔ اس دوران وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد مظہر ایاز نے یونیورسٹی کی کارکردگی، تحقیقی منصوبوں اور تعلیمی سہولیات کے بارے میں بریفنگ دی۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ (سی یو وی اے ایس) پاکستان میں ویٹرنری اور اینیمل سائنسز کے شعبے میں نمایاں مقام رکھتی ہے اور یہاں پر عالمی معیار کے مطابق تعلیم اور تحقیق کی جا رہی ہے۔
ڈپٹی سپیکر پنجاب اسمبلی ملک ظہیر اقبال چنڑ نے مختلف لیبارٹریوں اور تحقیقی مراکز میں موجود سہولیات اور تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کو تسلی بخش قرار دیا اور یونیورسٹی کی کاوشوں کو سراہتے ہوئے کہا کہ حکومت پنجاب ویٹرنری اور اینیمل سائنسز کے شعبے کی ترقی کے لیے ہر ممکن تعاون فراہم کرے گی۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ میں وزیر اعلیٰ پنجاب محترمہ مریم نواز سے یونیورسٹی کے لیے نہری پانی اور فنڈز کی درخواست کروں گا تاکہ جدید تحقیقی اور تعلیمی سرگرمیوں میں مثبت تبدیلیاں لائی جا سکیں۔ اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر علی رضا عباسی،ڈین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عبد الغفار ،ڈین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر فیض الحسن ، ڈاکٹر محمد کاشف اکرم ، ڈاکٹر فیصل صدیق ، ڈاکٹر خالد محمود ، ڈاکٹر شیراز، ڈاکٹر قدرت اللہ ، ڈاکٹر مبشر رؤف ، ڈاکٹر عبد الخالق ، محمد وقاص اکرم ، محمد ساجد ، ڈاکٹر فضل ودود ، ڈاکٹر عدنان قاضی ، ڈاکٹر انعام اللہ وٹو، ڈاکٹر محمد طارق ، ڈاکٹر محمد عمر نصیر اور ڈاکٹر امجد اسلام بھی موجود تھے۔

*Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and "Energy and Water Resource Institute" (NARC, Islamabad) officials Visit to CUVAS*
A meeting was conducted in the Vice-Chancellor Secretariat (CUVAS) on Sustainable Livestock Development and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA). The meeting was chaired by Dean (Faculty of Animal Production and Technology) Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul Hassan, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, CUVAS. The guests of honor for this meeting were Yasuno Osamu (Country representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Consultant in International Development), Dr. Ghani Akbar, and Engr. Hamza Arshad (Climate Energy and Water Resource Institute, NARC, Islamabad). Other participants of the meeting from CUVAS were Dr. Asif Javaid (Director, DAT&RC), Dr. Rana Muhammad Bilal (Chairman, Animal Nutrition department), Dr. Umair Younas (HoD, Livestock Management) and Dr. Akash Jamil (Rangeland expert).
Dr. Umair Younas gave a briefing to the guests about the CUVAS being the only professional institute of South Punjab, its academic components, ongoing activities including research projects and future research and development plans of CUVAS. Continuing the discussion on Climate Smart Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul Hassan highlighted the research work performed on the mitigation of methane emanation from ruminants for sustainable livestock production. He explained the CUVAS priorities for mitigation of climate change and the recent initiative on pasture development using native drought-resistant grass species. Mr. Yasuno Osamu appreciated the various initiatives taken by CUVAS to produce human resources so that the technical needs of farmers and industrial stakeholders are anticipated to be met through problem-oriented research, and capacity-building programs based on recent innovations in livestock disciplines.
The guests were introduced to the available facilities in Forage Research Center including the NIR feed analyzer to develop a library of the nutrient profile of fodder, forages, grasses and shrubs of the Cholistan desert as part of Climate Smart Agriculture. Other lab facilities included the availability of proximate analysis of fodders/forages, feed and ingredients for local farmers and detection of aflatoxins in animal feeds. Thereafter, the guests paid a visit to the experimental farm of the Dairy Animals Teaching and Research Center (DAT&RC) and witnessed various livestock species and breeds in small and large ruminants including Nili-Ravi buffaloes, Sahiwal cows, Cholistani cows, Sheep (Khaddali, Michni and Kari) and by Beetal goats. The guests also visited the CUVAS-Orchard maintaining the citrus, lemon and olive plants in different varieties.

SU, CUVAS ink MoU to collaborate on research, exchange of information*

JAMSHORO: The University of Sindh (SU), Jamshoro and the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday, aimed at fostering collaboration across various fields and enhancing research activities.

The agreement will bring about the exchange of information, teaching materials, and scientific publications between the two institutions. Faculty members will collaborate in veterinary sciences, animal production & technology, agricultural sciences and biosciences.

The MoU was signed by SU Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro and CUVAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz. This partnership will facilitate the transfer of technology, joint research and development projects, as well as cooperation in individual projects.

According to the MoU, the universities will work towards distributing and implementing technological advancements widely. Amendments to the MoU could be made through mutual written consent and any disputes will be resolved amicably through mutual understanding.

“The agreement is initially valid for three years and will automatically renew for subsequent three-year periods unless terminated. Either party may terminate the MoU by providing six months' written notice prior to the end of the current term”, the MoU said.

Chairperson Department of Zoology, University of Sindh Professor Dr. Naheed Kaka and the Chairman Department of Epidemiology, Cholistan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Professor Dr. Tariq Abbas have been appointed as focal persons to oversee the implementation of scientific activities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, SU Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro emphasized the MoU's aim to establish a cooperative framework between the universities.

He highlighted joint training programs for farmers, students and researchers, as well as invited lectures and outreach activities such as symposia, webinars, and international conferences.

Dr. Kalhoro noted that the MoU included provisions for reviewing doctoral theses and dissertations, exchanging books and scientific publications, sharing course information and other relevant data.

CUVAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz expressed his commitment to designing joint research projects, combined degree programs and exchange initiatives for students and researchers.

He also mentioned the planning and ex*****on of symposia, webinars, workshops, international conferences, scholarships and the exchange of teaching materials and scientific publications to strengthen bilateral collaboration.

As per vision of the CUVAS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, a one-day seminar program entitled "Dairy Herd Health Management" was hosted on Friday (10th May, 2024). The seminar aimed to enhance understanding and awareness regarding the management of dairy herd health among students and professionals from industry and academia.
The program was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, who served as the patron and chief guest of this seminar program. His presence added a significant academic value to the event, emphasizing the university's commitment to advancing knowledge in veterinary and animal sciences. His presence at the seminar underscored his dedication to fostering a culture of learning and innovation among students and faculty alike.
The guest speaker for the seminar was Dr. Muhammad Mohsin (Manager, RiverLine Dairy Farm), who shared valuable insights and expertise in dairy herd health management. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin carries international dairy farming experience and his participation was made possible through the invitation extended by the Dean (FAPT), Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul Hassan and Dr. Umair Younas (HoD, Livestock Management) at CUVAS.

Prof. Dr. Mazhar Ayaz, Vice Chancellor of Cholistan University Of Veterinary And Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur was awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal by the Tehrek-e-Istehkam Pakistan Council in recognition of his exceptional service to the institution and the community. These medals are presented annually to outstanding Pakistani figures from various fields.

The World Veterinary Day has a broader significance of promoting animal welfare worldwide.

On April 3, 2024, an Agreement of Cooperation (AoC) was signed between Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, and MNS University of Agriculture, Multan (MNSUA). The AoC was officially endorsed by the Vice Chancellor of CUVAS, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, and the Vice Chancellor of MNSUA, Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq A. Rajwana. The focal persons involved in the agreement from CUVAS were Dr. Umair Younas, and from MNSUA were Dr. Unsar Naeem Ullah and Dr. Asghar Abbas.
The event was attended by delegations of teaching and administrative officials from both universities. The Vice Chancellor and staff members of CUVAS were given a detailed visit of the facilities and services at MNSUA.
The signing of the AoC marks a significant step towards fostering closer ties between CUVAS and MNSUA. It is expected that this collaboration will lead to the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices, ultimately benefiting students, faculty, and the broader academic community.
Moving forward, both universities will work together to implement the terms of the agreement and explore opportunities for joint initiatives and projects.
